Ridley Scott Provides Updates on PROMETHEUS 2, BLADE RUNNER 2, and EXODUS; Says PROMETHEUS 2 Is Written

Ridley Scott is currently doing press rounds for The Counselor.  The movie was a bit of a disappointment and tanked at the box office, but that’s okay because the director never slows down.  He’s already charged ahead with his follow up, Exodus.  In a recent interview with Empire, he says the story will be “Fucking huge” and of course he’ll have the parting of the Red Sea.  For those unfamiliar with the project, Christian Bale is playing Moses (because if anyone looks Jewish, it’s a guy named “Christian”), John Turtorro as Pharaoh Seti, Sigourney Weaver as Tuya, Seti’s wife, and Joel Edgerton as Pharoah Ramses.  We previously reported that Aaron Paul and Ben Kingsley may have roles, but Empire doesn’t mention those actors.

Hit the jump for Scott talking about his upcoming projects, Prometheus 2, Blade Runner 2, and more.  Exodus is set for December 12, 2014.

prometheus-ridley-scott-noomi-rapaceScott was a bit unclear when it came to his upcoming slate of projects.  He tells Empire that Prometheus 2 is written, but didn’t indicate when it would start shooting. He added, “I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015…”.  In a recent interview with Steve, Michael Fassbender (who played the android David), the actor said he didn’t know when the sequel would start shooting.  So if Scott’s next two movies aren’t Prometheus 2 (which would mean it wouldn’t start filming until 2016 at the earliest), what could the other movies be?  Scott is never short on options (hence why he’s always working).

One of those projects could be The Forever War.  We last reported on the film over three years ago, but Scott hasn’t forgotten the adaptation of Joe Haldeman‘s 1974 sci-fi novel, which “tells the contemplative story of soldiers fighting an interstellar war between humanity and the enigmatic Tauran species [and has] pithy, insightful explorations of the inhumanity of war and of bureaucracy, and of the psychological effects resulting from time dilation space travel.”  Scott tells Empire “we’ve finally got a very good draft of that for Fox,” but again, he’s unclear.  Scott says, “I thought I’d left science-fiction for too long, that I had better climb back in. Prometheus was a great experience for me. Chasing number two, we can start evolving the grand idea…”  So is “number two” the second Prometheus or is “number two” The Forever War?

In a less confusing update, Scott says they’re still working on Blade Runner 2, and “that will happen sooner or later.”  It’s probably best to bet on “later” for this one.

Terrible idea. Get James Cameron to direct the sequel to Prometheus. Come on Fox – Keep it Simple Stupid.

    • Faptain America

I wish James Cameron would do something other than Avatar. I think he believes that Avatar will be his lasting legacy: movies, books, art, games, toys, theme park rides. He wants to outdo George Lucas. But look what happened to Lucas. You can’t just work on one thing forever, Jim!

      • Lance

Well, Lucas at least got a couple of good franchises off the ground (Indiana Jones, Star Wars) before things went bad. So if Cameron can actually develop the whole Avatar thing to the point I want to watch all four movies and go to the theme park, more power to him.

      • Sten

And he has already done it with the Terminator. There was a 3D Show and a TV series, four movies etc. Now he does the same thing, but more family oriented. I’d rather see him tackle Battle Angel and start the next big thing after the Superhero-movies get out of steam: Manga adaptations!

      • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

It would be nice to see him tackle other projects but I doubt it as I think he looks to have some sort of lasting impact as Lucas did w Star Wars and I feel he believes it to be with Avatar.

      • axalon

James can you please, for the love of god, go back to the Terminator franchise. It desperately needs you.

      • feloniousmax

Cameron has Battle Angel slated to begin pre production after post production finishes on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, once that completes, Avatar 4 and then he’s supposedly done with Pandora.

      • Scullibundo

Cameron recently indicated he would go into pre-production on Battle Angel once he’s in post on Avatar 4.

I hope someone else directs Prometheus 2. Then Scott can go ahead with The Forever War and the Blade Runner sequel, plus whatever else he comes up with.

    • Hari

Prometheus was beautifully directed. The issue was with the script. Why should anyone else direct the sequel?

      • axalon

Ridley had a lot of say over the script. He practically dictated what he wanted and expected Spaihts and Lindelof to follow suit.

      • http://www.unleashthefanboy.com/ Jasper Cresdee-Hyde

Because, like I stated in the OP, Ridley doesn’t have time to make all these movies and I feel like BR2 is going to take precedence over P2. It’ll come out in 2016 at the earliest.

Please, let it be. Then people will realize Prometheus wasn’t either confusing or unnecessary.

    • The Flobbit

Prometheus was a gorgeous film with amazing cinematography and acting, with themes of life, humanity, and the origin of the universe. Sure it wasn’t Alien, but it was still spectacular even in it’s downfall. 4.2 stars.

      • :)

4.2 stars out of 10 is terrible. Contradiction there.

Pro-homo-meateus does not deserve any stars.

      • The Flobbit

4.2 stars out of 5, you idiot.

First Spaceship on Venus (1960) did it first, and did it better.

  • disapoointment

i think they should all stop trying to build on awesome classics who simply don’t need the sequel etc.. Do something new, don’t fall back on ur masterpieces, shows ur out of it man.

  • The Flobbit

Exodus looks fucking amazing from recent set pics. I feel Scott is out to redeem himself. I myself never lost hope in him, and he is still one of my favourite directors. He just needs to get working on The Forever War and Blade Runner 2! Get on it Scott!

    • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

I just hope The Forever War get’s an R-rating. The world needs more of those movies

      • The Flobbit

All I hope is that The Forever War is and enjoyable and riveting sci-fi film that will show off Scott’s talent for creating believable worlds, and showcase some excellent acting.

  • darktrain

i really do want to know what happens to the girl and the android from prometheus so hoping he directs it sooner rather than later as he aint getting any younger. No need for bladerunner 2 thanks Bladerunner is perfect in my eyes.

    • The Flobbit

Your comment had so many grammar mistakes I wanted to gouge out my eye with a ballpoint pen. Commas, capitals, periods. Use them.

      • darktrain

wow, grammar police alert. What a sad little man trolling boards pointing out minor little things no-one else plays attention to.Name like flobbit kinda sums you up really.

      • PANTS

If you choose to be ignorant when it comes to the English language, that is your prerogative. But your childish inability to accept criticism is laughably pathetic. The neck-beard in your photo sums you up, really!

      • darktrain

That was quite amusing sir.Good for you for getting that off your chest. You must feel majestic for belittling me on a forum. You were quite good till you resorted to insulting me about a beard that you quite clearly are jealous off and will never be able to grow.

      • Norman Dostal

you correct grammar with incomplete sentences? moron

      • The Flobbit

You correct someone who corrects grammar without capitals or periods? Idiot.

      • lordjim

you are an idiot for not even realizing that Norman Dostal doesn´t have a problem with your grammar but with your arrogant stupidity and lack of behaviour.

      • The Flobbit

The real idiot here is you for butting in where no one wants you. Go away, please.

      • darktrain

you really are a fuck bucket of the highest order God help the human race with people like you on this planet I really do hope your dick shrivels up that is assuming you are male if not then i hope your tits drop off OH and i left the punctuation out for you to complete.

      • lordjim

well, english is not my first language, and i certainly don´t know the english rules for placing a comma, but i sincerly doubt that your comment is even remotely correct.at least you could try to use actual sentences before complaining about others, and after that you might try to stop being a childish moron out of boredom, write something that belongs to the topic.

      • The Flobbit

I can easily tell English is not your first language. I don’t even understand what you wrote! I will refrain from stooping to your level. I shun thee.

      • bonny

Hey dear flobbit….. I actually agree your notion that when you use English use it properly. I don’t at all wish to be included in your arguments with others however i must comment the whole argument about grammar was very hilarious and i also appreciate you kept it healthy despite others falling out. Finally don’t mind my grammar i accept its weak nevertheless i will build it up..

      • The Flobbit

Keep improving yourself! Glad to see there ARE civil corners on the internet, even on cut-throat boards like this one…

  • Mixed Race rich kid NYC

Nice to know what his next bombs are

  • Methos

    A white Moses………oh Hollywood

  • John

The Counselor was terrific. One of my favorites of the year.

  • anders

Ridley Scott and James Cameron needs to get their priorities together! They are 76 and 64 years old.. By the time Prometheus is started on it might be too late.. Same for Battle Angel :/

    • Stefan Bonomo

James Cameron is 54. Not as old as Scott, but still worrying…

      • anders

Both of us are wrong, hes actually 59 – born in 1954.

Anyways, my point is that if he is going to make 3 new Avatar movies.. thats gonna take a looong time :)

      • Stefan Bonomo

Oops. Still you’re right, he better hurry up so he can make Battle Angel.

  • Kris

The Counselor is one of the best films I’ve seen this year. The list of critics who panned it now comprises my list of critics to ignore.

    • Norman Dostal

youre the only one who likes it-its a mess

  • http://tarek-to-verso.over-blog.com/ tarek

Love it or hate it, Sir Ridley is a great director. I will wait eagerly for Prometheus 2.

    • sir charles

      wow, fag much?

      • http://tarek-to-verso.over-blog.com/ tarek

fago faggins from fag end himself

      • Steve

His Lordship would do well to remember that hurling the word “fag” on the Internet automatically outs one as a closet homosexual.

It’s ok your Lordship. It gets better.

      • Redjester

Well at least he’s now ‘out’ so to speak…

      • Norman Dostal

are you 12? who says fag?

      • Redjester

Prepubescent boys and homophobic men uncomfortable with their own sexuality do. Aside from that, no one.

      • Redjester

I think we’re a little past using “fag” as an insult, don’t you?

  • ALIEN 5 HAS NOT HAPPENED YET!

THROW THE ‘PRO-HOMO-MEATEUS 2- MORE FAG ALBINO ALIENS’ SCRIPT AWAY!!!!!

THERE NEEDS TO BE A REAL ‘ALIEN 5′ WITH SIGOURNEY WEAVER YOU DUMB FUCKS!

MADE NO SENSE WHY THE PHONY SPACE JOCKEYS LOOK LIKE ALBINO GAYS IN THE ABYSMAL FILM ‘PRO-HOMO-MEATEUS’, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN THE REAL ALIEN MOVIE ‘ALIEN’, THE SPACE JOCKEY WAS NOT A SUIT, THAT WAS AN EXOSKELETON, YOU DUMB SHITS!

    • Avenging World

So, the film kinda went over your head, then.

    • Nick Gadman

      TIMMY!

  • Strong Enough

just keep him away from the storyboards

  • Potato

Is the internet already furious at it’s squandered potential? Or did that happen before the sequel was even announced? Before Prometheus was even announced? Before Alien was even announced?

  • zac

I missed the old Ridley Scott..you know the one that told stories and made great movies about characters and people no matter what genre and regardless of how visual or “thematic” a movie was. Give me story!

  • http://vijayasimhabr.wordpress.com/ jay

The first one had so many plot holes, it just won’t let me get excited about this announcement. The viral videos for the movie, including the trailers, were better than the movie.

    • Redjester

Although I really liked Prometheus, I’ll agree with that statement. The TEDtalk as well as David “commercial” were nothing short of brilliant.

      • http://vijayasimhabr.wordpress.com/ jay

Thank you for agreeing. Those trailers looked so good, they made the movie look dull. The movie was already dull, and there is no running away from that. I think Fox should just leave the Alien Franchise alone. Perhaps make a full fledged war movie with the predators

  • Avenging World

    Looking forward to Prometheus 2.
Loved the first one, want to know where Shaw and David wind up next.
Too bad Miss Vickers died, she was funny.

    • Redjester

Agreed. I believe the hype killed the film for some people as their expectations were simply too high (as were mine, initially). If this had been a brand new film by an unknown director, I think it would have had quite the following right now.

My only real problem with the film (as with many sci-fi films/shows) was its not so subtle religious undertones or should I say overtones. Are you really trying to tell me that in 2093 a good percentage of scientists will be really, really religious??? Hell, the majority of scientists are atheist now! Anyway, as an atheist who believes we as a society are progressing out of religion and towards science (perhaps science as religion for some), this bugged me to no end. If I were to guess what the state of theism would be in 2093, I would predict it would be nothing more than a radical group of cults frowned down upon by most individuals. It’s the next logical step.

      • Nmaster

This would the most ideal scenario, if you thought that societal trends (decreasing ignorance) would continue as they currently were.

However with overpopulation, resource depletion & the oncoming economical decline of the west/ powershift to a semi-capitalist/communist east:

I wouldn’t bet against radicalisation (see greece or for a longer analysis pakistan on large male families)

      • darktrain

        It’s a film for fuck’s sake,get a grip

  • Norman Dostal

Prometheus was just so-so and The Counselor was horrible-can someone tell him to slow down and write better stories or just stop?
