I’ll be honest, up until about fifteen minutes ago I had no clue that Rihanna was trying her hand at acting much less that she had been cast in Peter Berg’s (Hancock) ultra-necessary adaptation of Hasbro’s Battleship. I guess I must have slept right through that one. Regardless of my own ignorance, though, the film is currently in production and some images of Rihanna in full Naval dress have landed online. Starring alongside Rihanna in the film are Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood). In spite of the fact that Universal almost sank the adaptation as recent as this June, it is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 18, 2012.
Regardless of how interested you are in her acting career, Rihanna is easy on the eyes. To check out the images for yourself, hit the jump.

I just love how “Hardcore” she is in the third photo. It is quite a dangerous step.
Anywho…. a $200 million Battleship movie… with probably another $200 million to spend in marketing…. and Peter Berg left DUNE for this huh?
Oh well. It’s just dumb enough to be the biggest grossing film of 2012. Yes, I feel it’s dumb enough to outgross The Avengers.
Hardcore? The girl wouldn’t know hardcore if it smacked her in the eye! Oh…too soon?
Nobody noticed she is wearing a DDG Hat not a Battleship hat. So will the movie be renamed Destroyer? This movie is already looking like Hollywood is clueless about the military movie.
Peter Berg actually came on my DDG to find out more about how the military actually operates. His dad was a naval historian and he actual knows a lot about the military. He is quite aware that DDG correlates to a destroyer not a battleship, but as ‘the battleship” of today’s current Navy is the destroyer, the movie is actual about a destroyer squadron. You can’t exactly make a present day movie about a warship that is no longer in service…

I like what Berg’s group is doing so far, give a thumbs up to Rihanna and wish this project the best. However, I’m concerned that the timing of the release (waaaay too much competition in May 2012) and the large budget might be problematic… though the movie would eventually recoup any potential negative returns.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we were to see the release date changed (again).

DUDE! Haven’t you seen 2012 the movie? There won’t be a 2012 to have a highest grossing film, Roland Emmerich made sure of that.
