The Sundance Film Festival 2016, which will run from January 21st-31st, has announced the lineup for its Midnight Movie section, which is often dominated by horror films and terrifying thrillers that tend to be more gruesome than, say, Joel Edgerton's The Gift. Last year's selection included 2015 standout It Follows, as well as Eli Roth's Knock Knock, The Nightmare, Turbo Kid, and Cop Car. 2016 sampling is top-lined by 31, the latest horror jaunt from Rob Zombie, one of the most consistent and fascinating horror helmers currently working. The selection also includes Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers and Antibirth, the first feature-length work from Danny Perez, known primarily for the Animal Collective "visual album" Oddsac. 31 / U.S.A. (Director and screenwriter: Rob Zombie) — Five friends are kidnapped on the day before Halloween and are held hostage in a terrifying place named Murder World. While trapped, they must play a violent game called 31, in which the mission is to survive 12 hours against a gang of evil clowns. Carnage Park / U.S.A. (Director and screenwriter: Mickey Keating) — The year is 1978. A team of wannabe crooks botch a small-town bank heist and flee with their hostage deep into the California desert, where they inexplicably find themselves in a harrowing fight for survival against a psychotic ex-military sniper. The Greasy Strangler / U.S.A.
