During today’s press conference for Due Date, Robert Downey Jr. was asked about Iron Man 3 going to Disney from Paramount, how has Sherlock Holmes 2 been going, and I asked him if he’ll star in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. While I’d love to say we have huge answers to these questions, Downey Jr. was rather brief and to the point on all three. Hit the jump for what he said:
Regarding Iron Man 3 and being at Disney:
“I really loved our relationship with Paramount. To me, the main thing… I don’t care about any of that. They’re going to make all those movies. I just want to make a great movie.”
On Sherlock Holmes 2:
“Sequels are always tough but we’ve got a great group and we’re three weeks in and it’s already pretty fantastic.”
And after the press conference ended, I went up to Downey Jr. and asked him if he would be in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. He said:
“I don’t know.”
That is not the answer I was hoping for as I think his involvement is critical for the movie.
Here are the full quotes. Look for the full press conference soon. Also, a hat tip to Fred Topel for asking some of these questions.
Question: Robert, with upcoming news, how do you feel about Iron Man 3 going to Disney?
Robert Downey, Jr.: Love it! What does that mean? [Everyone laughs]
That it would be released under Disney’s deal with Marvel.
Downey, Jr.: I really loved our relationship with Paramount. To me, the main thing… I don’t care about any of that. They’re going to make all those movies. I just want to make a great movie. And thanks to my tutelage under two guys who know how to play with power, Zach and Todd, I know exactly what to do with Iron Man 3.
Phillips: Love it. [Everyone laughs]
Downey, Jr.: That was almost mad with power.
Has it been easy to get back into Sherlock mode?
Downey, Jr.: Sequels are always tough but we’ve got a great group and we’re three weeks in and it’s already pretty fantastic.
I’m really hoping Gravity comes together with you in it. Are you going to be in it?
Downey, Jr.: I don’t know.
