Although not yet attached to the project, director Robert Rodriguez is already endorsing 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool.  In a recent interview with Hero Complex, Rodriguez said of the Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick screenplay, “It’s a great script and a great property.”  In regards to his potential involvement, the director admitted to having taken part in meetings with 20th Century Fox about directing the film.  However, he remained steadfast that nothing is official and that his next directorial effort is still very much up in the air.

While Deadpool is obviously one possibility for Rodriguez, he claimed that two other projects are also in play.  Hit the jump for more.

Though the article described the director as being “gung ho about Deadpool,” Rodriguez maintained that his next film will be one of the following three: the aforementioned Deadpool, the long-discussed Sin City 2, or a third film which he declined to name (potentially the futuristic thriller Nerveracker that Dimension announced last year).  No word on whether or not Ryan Reynolds’ now questionable presence will have any affect on his interest in directing Marvel’s favorite mercenary.

Rodriguez recently finished the final sound mix for the upcoming Machete, which hits theaters in a few weeks on September 3rd.

  1. I love comic films and i would love to see him do sin city but i would love it more to see him do Nerveracker next something original

  2. well he wouldn't say it was shit would he now, however if this does come to fruition they're going to have to make it as cheap as possible. Barring Nolan Norths voicework in the Mavel cartoons i've never really come across Deadpool, it makes me wonder whether it can be a mainstream property or a remain a niche one

  3. Deadpool is a gamble, since there's no other hero like him. Most heroes don't use swords, guns and explosives (actually, I can't think of any who use all three). And those that do use weapons are dark (which DP can/has done) and serious. And comical heroes usually don't have severe problems.
Spiderman has: Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane
Deadpool has… well, I'll let you know if you want. It's actually a rather long list.

  4. rodriguez should direct deadpool and make it a hole lot epic cause robert is good with action flicks. what i want to see in deadpool is ryan wearing the custome and the mask pulse crazy jokes and ryan acting insane like deadpool does in the comics; in one scene can deadpool crack a funny saying that no one would say when you're in a fight and lastly good and cool characters like domino, taskmaster,blind-z and the texas hotty.
