5 New Images from the Remake of ROBOCOP Starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, and Michael Keaton

MGM and Sony Pictures have released five new images from RoboCop.  The film takes place in 2028 and finds the sleazy OminiCorp putting its drone technology to use on domestic grounds by way of taking blown-apart cop Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) and turning him into a cyborg police officer.  The experiment on Murphy is meant to be the first of many RoboCops the company hopes to put in every U.S. city, but things don’t go as planned.  In addition to giving us more images of the cast, the most noteworthy image shows us a suit that looks highly reminiscent of the iconic one from Paul Verhoeven‘s 1987 original.  This version looks pretty crappy, and that’s probably intentional since Murphy is presumably meant to evolve from this fat, clunky suit to the sleek black one.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Samuel L. JacksonRoboCop opens February 12, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for RoboCop:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

well, i like the crappy, clunky, fat suit a lot more than the fetish-like black one.he is supposed to be a robot, not a superhero.

meh, I like it for nostalgia, but the new suit looks better in black and that’s how we’d make it today.

the silver suit is 100 times better than the dark knight/ironman suit. i have a feeling it will be an early prototype and we will only see briefly in the beginning. this movie has fail written all over it, the trailer was terrible.

The ungloved hand ruins the illusion of “robot,” and makes it so obvious the suit is a suit. Terrible decision, and I have a bad feeling the hand is not gloved because it’s a major plot point or character moment or something that’s going to be incredibly cheesy.

it is a plot point, and i agree it looks bad

Whole heartedly agree. I’m already cringing thinking about what the plot point is going to be. I still think the flick might not *totally* suck, though.

If that “much too obvious” black “rubber suit” is going to be the main one used in the movie, which I’m guessing it will be so, this movie is going to end up sucking donkey balls so hard, Robocop 3 will look like a classic. Umm, maybe not, since Robocop 3 was also PG or something like that which was the death sentance of that movie : (

Let’s hope the script is solid enough to make us swallow this so-so suit

  • Mark

WOW! the gray suit is so much awesome than the black one!! I hope

so much that they will take it back permanently in the sequel… if there is a sequel.

    • Mark

but keep the look of the black helmet and paint it in gray.
