ROBOCOP Set Photos and Video Reveal More Looks at the Futuristic Robo-Cycle, Cop Car and Taxi

     October 18, 2012

New images from the set of director Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake show off more looks at the film’s futuristic vehicles. We’ve seen glimpses of the cop car and taxi before, and the motorcycle popped up recently, but now we have much more extensive looks at all of them. With all these vehicles to wash and wax, it’s no wonder the film was recently bumped to 2014.  As a bonus, we finally know the answer to why Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) retains one human hand as the cyborg-cop: bunny fingers.

RoboCop stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel and Jackie Earle HaleyRoboCop opens February 7th, 2014.  Hit the jump to see the images. [Update: We’ve removed the unofficial images and video.]

Here’s the official synopsis for RoboCop:

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Director José Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak. RoboCop is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Eric Carraro as Executive Producer. The film is currently in pre-production and slated for a summer 2013 release.

I don’t like the suit but i don’t hate it. though what bugs me is the one human hand on it. it looks so odd. The bike is cool.

  • Splurger

Gun (tazer) in a holster, not embedded in his thigh. OMG this is gonna suck so much.

  • mattedscreen

if the 4th to last picture is how they’re going to light this thing, it might look ok, retains the metallic hues of the original, if that’s instagram, Im pissed

    That suit…..just….no.

And why are these considered futuristic?

I kinda like the taxi–BUT NOT ENOUGH TO LIKE ROBOCOP.

  • ChristyJ

The suit makes complete sense to me, an ipad/droid look more than superhero comic book or mid-80\’s original Robo clunky metal look. He’s a 2028 corporate product to be sold to cities. It’s corporate-profit driven manufactured dull.

It’s only 15 years into the future. Check out the cars and clothes, 1997 doesn’t look too different from 2012.

The motorcycle enthusiasts in my family are delighted he’s on a cycle.

    I wish

Human right hand…. no thick plating for armor…. Lame.

Tyler: We were able to save the left arm.
Bob Morton: What? I thought we agreed on total body prosthesis, now lose the arm okay?!

  • cornerofthemoon

There releasing it in February to avoid a Razzie nomination.

  • tim

    Rubbo cop!

Another sad example of outsourcing industry abroad. Once a proud piece of law enforcing cybernetics hewn from detroit steel. Now a nondescript cacophony of carbon composite, chucked together by poorly paid workers in the same factory as the iPhone 10.

  • Marty

Now what? Luke Skywalker story about his hand?

  • Michael Horne

I’m _sure_ that suit wasn’t that bulky last time we saw pics… It doesn’t look so bad now.
This might be interesting, if only to see what someone else does with the character.
I like the original… but the world can live without another exploding toxic-waste-man. I say give it a shot.
I wonder if that right hand is going to be completely CGId with something over the top… But I suppose it would be covered in green latex if that were the case.

  • Chum

LOOKS COOL, you guys will complain about everything. Jose Padilha has something special up his sleeve with this and im excited.

Fellas , this is 2014 Robocop not 1987

    • GET OVER IT!

hahahaha ok, ok, im sure he has wonders in store for us up his sleeve after ripping off an original, pshhh , i’ll watch the original, that was special…will you be buying the toys of rubbercop? ;p

Letting the human hand show is big mistake. It’s a constant visual reminder the entire getup is just a rubber suit. There’s no one to blame but Padilha for that one, because if he couldn’t fight the execs to even fix that problem, he’s not worthy of this project. But I suspect Padilha actually came up with the idea of showing the human hand himself, because he thought it would be some sort of cool idea.

The suit, the cycle — terrible. Paint some pink stripes on both and he could be the T-mobile girl.

Never judge a film by set pics.

The second squad car is a hatchback… random. I guess for when Robocop needs to take his son to soccer practice.

    • Chris Morley

Yeah its a badly disguised Dodge Caliber. Me and the ex wife had one.

Still it has a cool fill down speaker on the back door, so Robo will be able to bust some moves. Like the girl he looks in that suit!

  • Joe

that suit… ouch. that normal hand … ouch, ouch.

  • murdernexxus

well obviously no Clarence Boddicker shootin the hand off. no Kurtwood Smith. no chance in hell its going to be good. “Well give the man a hand”

I don’t like the bike that much, I’d love something more machine-like with visible moving parts. The suit I still have’nt made my mind up about, I want to see what they do with it in post production or whatever they call it.

That hand is going to be major to the story development. I’m thinking a torture scene with RC losing it. Or at very least a threat of it being lopped off, and with it his ‘human touch’.

  • Lance

I can see the subplot with the hand now. Robocop’s evil corporate masters use his own programming against him. But… his human hand fights back! Robo keeps hitting himself, over and over, until the bad programming is knocked out of him! It’s brilliant!

  • Ash

anyone notice it says wolverine on the taxi

Awesome! Bout time we had a movie of STREET-HAWK!

(infact if this actually was a movie of Street hawk, that would be the coolest outfit and bike ever! Unfortunately its supposed to be Robo-cop) :-(

“You [guys] probably don’t think I’m a very nice guy……do ya?”

The entire point of Robocop was, “Is he still a man? Is he nothing but a machine?”
With this Skintight armour and external gun holster, its definitely missing the point.

Prepare yourself for a remake of truly average proportions.

This is supposed to be a heavily armored, slow moving, methodical cybernetic police officer. It isn’t an “80’s look”, it’s a utilitarian look. He has all the range of motion he needs to walk, shoot, and operate a police car without exposing any joints to stray bullets.

Robocop is the John Wayne of police officers. He does not go running around all the time. He walks, and he walks with an attitude.
