We’ve only been able to get glimpses of director Jose Padilha’s RoboCop reboot via a bunch of set photos and today’s no different.  What is different is that this batch of photos show off Michael Keaton as the OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars, Michael Kenneth Williams as Alex Murphy’s (Joel Kinnaman) partner Officer Jack Lewis and Abbie Cornish as Murphy’s wife, Ellen. Oh and some more shots of Kinnaman in his cyborg attire. The picture also seem to confirm that Kinnaman’s Murphy will retain a human right hand: a corporate attempt to show the supercop’s human side or an Achilles’ heel of sorts?

RoboCop opens August 9th 2013 and also stars Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel and Jackie Earle Haley.  Hit the jump to see the new set photos. [Update: We've removed the unofficial images.]

Here’s the official synopsis for RoboCop:

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Director José Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak. RoboCop is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Eric Carraro as Executive Producer. The film is currently in pre-production and slated for a summer 2013 release.

I’ll reserve judgement until i’ve seen the film, but nothing about the production thus far instills confidence. The suit is incredibly generic and uninspired.

  • Beatific

I still think the suit design is a strange choice, nothing really sets it apart from a bunch of other suits in movies. With the suit being the most recognisable element of the franchise I would have thought the new one would have had some nods to the original.

  • Beatific

Perhaps they could spray it silver and stick Peter Wellers head on top.

  • Midnight Max

The exposed face idea was an awful one- it looks goofy and impractical. Loved the 1987 film- I’ll skip this, though.

    • Chad

Yeah, such an awful idea – especially since Peter Weller’s face is completely exposed through the whole ending of the original… nice try.

      • LEM

That’s true BUT the face looks as if it’s stretched across the metal but this one just looks like a helmet covering his face and head.

Only if Steve Jobs had designed the suit. I thought 25 years of technological advancement would push us to pursue a sleek, advanced design. This looks like something the props department of the twilight zone cooked up. Hell Iron Man paid more homage to Robocop than this.

    LAME, the suit is lame

  • GMonk

    Looks like a generic robo-baddy for Iron-Man.

  • leon

    It looks so bad.

If they add lights all over it people are going to bitch that they stole the Tron look. If they leave it all black people are going to bitch that they stole the Batman look. Unless they radically change the concept of the suit, it going to look like something we’ve seen before, but then people are going to bitch that it doesn’t look like Robocop. Catch 22.

This could be cool, if they do it right. But I guess one could say that about any movie.

Why is the suit black.. why does it look generic and tacky !! who’s dum idea was this ??
the suit from the eighties looks 100x better than this plastic looking crap.

They really hurt themselves with that suit. The pictures look so bad but who knows maybe they can convince people with a good trailer.

  • Serpens Solida

They will fuck everything up. Looks like RoboBatman. I prefer the original, specially for the director.

  • Joe

oh shit. it’s finally their turn to fuck up my favorite action movie now. well it was bound to happen. It looks like shit.

  • Cody

The original Robocop is badass, but this is a plastic shit. Ungloved left hand? WTF? This is not a robot, tis is just a man on a rubber suit.

  • Remoren

I think the suit looks fine, considering they are going to do post production on it. I hate all the whiners that apparently don’t know how movies are made. The suit will NOT look like rubber after post you fucking MORONS.
