Three new TV spots have popped up online for the remake of RoboCop.  The film takes place in 2028 and finds the sleazy OminiCorp putting its drone technology to use on domestic grounds by way of taking blown-apart cop Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) and turning him into a cyborg police officer.  The experiment on Murphy is meant to be the first of many RoboCops the company hopes to put in every U.S. city, but things don’t go as planned.  After watching these TV spots, I’m still not excited for this movie.  I’m trying to hold out some hope, but I have to keep reminding myself that the film is coming out in February.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spots.  The film also stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Samuel L. JacksonRoboCop opens February 12, 2014.

Via MGM and Sony Pictures.

Here’s the official synopsis for RoboCop:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Check out the shot at about 0:48 in the second clip, though… not bad.

I saw that as well and all of a sudden my optimism has grown.

Whats bigger than a hero ? A dead hero, so true.

This looks like a more intelligent version of the ‘man into machine’ theme of the original movie.

    Great cast, too.

    • Lance

No way this is “more intelligent” than the first film. Just “more obvious.”

      • Raptor Jesus

Apparently you never saw the original film.

        It wasn’t exactly Shakespeare.

      • Fly Bobby Fly

Indeed. The original isn’t a great film because it’s a multi-layered examination of the human soul. It works because it’s timely, over-the-top ridiculous, and it gives a shit about NEITHER of those things. The remake seems to get the timely part, and isn’t taking itself too seriously, but it’s also smart enough to know it can’t do Verhoeven’s outlandishness. So it’s going a different route by being a little more slick and offering a different take on Murphy’s situation. Which I say is a good way to go.

      • Lance

Sorry, but there’s more to the original than what you saw.

The original is a great satire, and it really gets to the heart of all the fears and concerns of 1980s America. It’s an extremely intelligent movie with some very cutting social commentary, and this new version isn’t going to come even close.

        What is more intelligent?

Relying a little more on character development and a little less on ultra-violence and sarcasm.

They’ve obviously gone in a different direction with the family and that is encouraging. I want a re-imagining, not a shot by shot re-do.

        Fair enough.

We will see when the movie comes out. I’m a fan of the original. And the core elements of that were the ultra-violence and the dark satirical humor. I’m going to go see the remake. The cast is great. My fear is that they’re giving the original sleek Hollywood treatment.

    • Mekt_Ranzz

It’s probably in reference to the drone industry.

    looks pretty awesome

I’m a little confused about why his voice sounds more robotic with his mask on. The robotic voice is really much better. The shots of him in these are a bit more convincing.
