Ahead of the Blu-ray release of The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who's Walking, we're thrilled to bring you an exclusive clip from the episode's fantastic bonus features. Every second of the 22-minute special was painstakingly chosen by the creative team, meaning that some stellar material didn't quite make the final cut. One such sequence, dubbed "Patches" for reasons that will become clear in just a bit, never made it past the animatics stage of production, but luckily it landed on the Blu-ray extras. Luckier still, we can share it with you today!

The deleted scene in question features series writers Breckin Meyer and Mike Fasolo, along with co-creator Matthew Senreich, commenting on the "Patches" sequence. As a bonus, I was also able to talk to co-creator Seth Green about a number of aspects of this special including this deleted scene--keep an eye out for the full interview next week. And though you'll have to wait until Tuesday, March 27th to pick it up on Blu-ray and DVD, starting tomorrow, you can snag the special's digital soundtrack, released by Adult Swim.

Here's what Green had to say about the scene above:

What was it about this scene that didn't work for you guys in the editing process?

Green: There's nothing about it that didn't work. The whole hard truth of editing, especially editing for broadcast, is that you have a finite amount of time that the program's going to be. So it comes down to seconds, you know? When we have sketches that are made up of microseconds, you only have enough time ... you do math in either direction: If I keep these two things, it means sacrificing this longer thing, or if I sacrifice this longer thing, perhaps I can keep these four little things. Once you get into that conversation of, "Alright, guys, we're losing 30 seconds wholesale; where are we taking that from?" in something like The Walking Dead or even in previous specials that are more storytelling, it's anything that's off-topic. So if you watch the narrative of the special, it's all very thorough in a relatively straight timeline, and it does service to as many characters as we can in a timespan.

And then you look at a sketch like "Patches" [laughs] and say, "Alright, well this is cutable for broadcast." And it's not because it's not hilarious, or something that we all loved and laughed out loud at, it's just the time. It becomes very clear, when it comes down to cutting this many seconds, what you're going to keep and what's off-topic.

Check back for much more from my chat with Green about the Robot Chicken special, the potential for future installments in The Walking Dead universe, and what's next for Green himself and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. Below are more details on the upcoming Blu-ray release, a review of which will also be up on the site next week!
