Back in February we reported that Hollywood Gang, a production company on the Warner Bros. lot run by Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari had obtained the rights to the long-in-development Robotech movie and wanted Mama‘s Andy Muschietti to develop (and perhaps direct) the film. At the time I was guessing that Robotech would stay at Warner Bros. but now Deadline is reporting that the film has moved to Sony and is now on the fast track there since they see it as a potential franchise.
Doug Belgrad, Michael De Luca and Matthew Milam will shepherd the Robotech movie at the studio. De Luca commented:
“Robotech is unique in that it has always been a marriage of spectacle with human characters that seem drawn from life. That’s why we are so excited to be working with Mark and Gianni as we move forward on this project. With a history that offers an epic love triangle, a renegade hero, and a world on the brink of extinction, Robotech offers a wide scope and a rich and impressive universe where the story possibilities are endless.”
I loved Robotech as a kid so maybe I can find a spark of whatever I enjoyed then in this film. As of right now there is no word on if Muschietti is still onboard. Once again here is one of he more epic moments from the series.
