Disney has released the first Rogue One clip online. For those unfamiliar with Rogue One, the story takes place before the events of A New Hope and centers on a group of rebels who are sent to retrieve the plans for the Death Star. They are led by Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) whose father (Mads Mikkelsen) was forced by the Empire to build the destructive space station.

In this clip, we see Jyn and Cassian (Diego Luna) fighting off some stormtroopers, and it mixes a nice bit of nostalgia (those Empire knuckleheads still can’t shoot straight) with a fresh feeling of boots-on-the-ground combat. There’s also a nice joke at the end involving K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), so we know the film won’t be completely humorless.

Check out the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story clip below. The film opens December 16th and also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker.

Here’s the official Rogue One synopsis:

This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
