The popular video game simulation Roller Coaster Tycoon will be dropping into theaters courtesy of Sony Pictures Animation. Heat Vision reports that the studio picked up the rights as a package deal including producer, and possibly director, Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) and writers by David Ronn and Jay Scherick (The Zookeeper, The Smurfs).Created by Chris Sawyer, the popular series has players building theme parks from the ground up (basically Sims Roller Coaster) with the ability to create the most insane roller coasters and rides they can imagine while simultaneously maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The Atari based series has raked in over $300 million and is the third best selling PC title of all time in the U.S.How will that translate into a movie? Only time will tell. But if this project isn’t in 3D, someone made a horrible mistake. [Note from Matt: I've included my favorite Roller Coaster Tycoon video after the jump.  It needs to be a scene in the movie.]
