As we reported earlier, Roman Polanski was arrested this past weekend in Switzerland, 31 years after pleading guilty to having sexual relations with an underage girl and subsequently leaving the United States. His arrest means that his latest film, “The Ghost” has been left unfinished. Starring Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor, the movie centers on the fictional former British politician Adam Lang (Brosnan) as he writes his memoirs with the help of McGregor’s character. Based on the Robert Harris novel, “The Ghost” also stars Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson, Olivia Williams and James Belushi. Hit the jump to find out more about the film and whether or not it can make it into theaters.

With a controversial main character heavily based on former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, “The Ghost” had already secured distribution deals with a number of international territories, including Germany, where it was shot, and France, where Polanski currently resides. As Harris said when the film was first announced, “There’s a lot of psychological intrigue in the story, as well as espionage and politics, and most of the action takes place in an oceanfront house during the middle of winter – all of it classic Polanski territory.”

When Polanski was arrested, the film was already into post-production and he had completed most of the editing. The score of the film as well as general sound mixing had not been started, meaning the movie is still a few months away from completion. Though Polanski has vowed to fight extradition, there is the very real possibility that he will be unsuccessful. Even so, given the limited nature of the work left to be done, “The Ghost” will likely be completed, even if it not by Polanski. Originally slated for 2010, it may not be released until 2011 but until Polanski’s legal situation can be understood more clearly, the release date, like everything, is up in the air.

This bullshit is practically causing an international incident! The facts are this: This man raped and sodomized a 13yr old girl who has since forgiven him for the act (Shocking what a multi million dollar settlement will do to shut one’s mouth!) I am in complete utter shock that people in Hollywood (Shame on you Debra Winger!) and others who are demanding his release asap! The man was charged with 6 felony counts of rape and pleaded down to one felony count of rape & sodomy on a child. To be fair to Mr. Polanski, there was an agreement reached with the prosecutor and the judge where he was to do 42 days in jail. At the time of sentencing, the judge had a change of heart and reneged on the deal and was going to hand Mr. Polanski far more jail time. For this, I cannot blame Mr. Polanski for fleeing the country. A deal is a deal and the judge was completely out of line to try and change that deal at the sentencing! With that said, it’s time that Mr. Polanski faced the music! It makes NO DIFFERENCE that the victim has since forgiven him and does not want to “re-live” the rape. A crime is a crime no matter how much time passes. HOWEVER, Mr. Polanski needs to be punished with the laws that were in effect at the time of the rape 1977!!! He should NOT be punished based on the laws of today, otherwise the man will never see the light of day again. I don’t give a SHIT if this film sees release or not, If we free this man under any circumstances with no prison time or punishment, I shudder to think the kind of message it will send to our community and most importantly: Our Children!

Hi Ken, it is your Barbie,
Maybe you were present in Roman’s home during the Mansons famous night of death of his bride and unborn child, so you can be a judge of his life,
    tons of regards

szymon = are you a nut or just playing a nut tonight? If one has a bad life it’s an excuse to victimize an inccocent child. That’s your defense? Did you go to law school for that one or did you learn that one on the play ground?

    THANK YOU!
Szymon um…are you the offspring of Manson? Does it make sense to you that if someone’s wife is butchered while she is pregnant that it’s ok to rape a 13 year old child?! Get some help! There is a line between having sympathy & compassion for someone and CLEARLY you have no concept of where that line is! yes I feel bad for what happened to him but what about the 13yr old girl?! Who cares if she forgave him? That does not excuse the fact that one of the most serious crimes was committed and he needs to pay for his crime. Serioulsy I would like to think that you were joking when that thought entered your mind but somehow I don’t think you were….. of course you did call yourself “Barbie” so im assuming the ONLY thing in between your ears is: PLASTIC! I’m not sure who i feel more sorry for: Polanski for losing his wife and unborn child, or you, for confirming my thoughts that the human race is devolving….
