While director Ron Howard is currently knee-deep in post-production on his upcoming Formula 1 racing drama Rush, it appears that he may have found his next project.  Howard is now attached to direct an adaptation of the 2003 Israeli TV movie Kol Ma She’Yesh Li (translated to All I’ve Got).  The project has been in development at J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for a couple of years, but it looks like Howard’s involvement will start moving this thing closer to production.  Hit the jump for more details on the film, which is described as a mix between The Notebook and Albert Brooks’ fantastic 1991 pic Defending Your Life.

ron-howard-all-ive-gotNews of Howard’s involvmenet with All I’ve Got comes via Vulture.  Written and directed by Margalit Keren (Be’Tipul), the story begins when a young couple who are very much in love get into a car accident, killing the young man.  The woman goes on to marry another man and have three children, but her death 50 years later brings her to the afterlife where she’s given the choice of forgetting the memory of her life post-accident and starting over as a young woman with her first love, or remaining as she is and waiting for her second husband’s death.  It’s an interesting premise, and if Howard sticks closer to Defending Your Life than The Lovely Bones, we could be in for something pretty cool.

The film would mark Howard’s first fantasy feature since 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but not for lack of trying.  He’s been working hard to get an ambitious three-film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower for the past few years, but last we heard the project was still having trouble getting financing.  Could All I’ve Got serve as Howard’s replacement fantasy project?  Hopefully we hear more soon.
