Today we have what looks like our first glimpse into the production of David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. You may recall that Rooney Mara was cast in the lead role of Lisbeth Salander less than three weeks ago. Fans of the book know Lisbeth is an avid motorcyclist, so this could just be Mara practicing for that side of the role — a part of rehearsal. Though Rooney Mara Network does indicate that the photos were snapped “on location” in Sweden.
In any case, I’d advise against judging on the clothes, the setting, or the look of the character until we’re further into production, and see something more official. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the book.
The synopsis for Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:
Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. I really don’t think Lisbeth Salander would do red sleeves, but most likely this is just a motorcycle practice or test and not the actual costume. If it is, I guess I can handle such a change as long as her attitude and demeanor are like the book.

I’m glad to see they went all the way with the haircut – fincher said he wanted the lead to resemble the girl from die antwoord and so she does. you have to be ridiculously cute to pull that look off; hard to tell from the pic whether she does so.

agreed – the jacket looks like it was scavenged from michael jacksons wardrobe. salinder is effortlessly cooler than this…and fincher has better taste.
I’ll try to reserve judgment until I see the film, or at the very least see some official images and perhaps a trailer…
