Now playing in theaters is director Paul Feig’s Spy. As I’ve said many times, I think Spy is a great and extremely funny movie that’s definitely worth your time and money. The potential franchise-starter features Melissa McCarthy as Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst who goes into the field for the very first time after her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid. Loaded with an all-star cast (Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale, Allison Janney, Peter Serafinowicz, and Morena Baccarin), one of the main reasons Spy is so great is that each supporting character has a moment to shine, and Statham completely knocks it out of the park in his first big studio comedy. For more on Spy, read Perri’s review or watch the trailers.
At the L.A. press day I played an abbreviated version of “Save or Kill” with Paul Feig, Rose Byrne, and Miranda Hart. If you haven’t seen it yet, the game reveals which franchises, characters or bands someone would choose when pitted against another of equal value. Han Solo or Indiana Jones – If you were told you could only save one and the other would be erased from existence, who would you pick?
