A new trailer has been released for Runner Runner, and I can't decide what the funniest thing about it is.  Is it that the plot—Justin Timberlake playing a guy who falls in with bad people after being swindled in online poker—seems like it should be a movie from the mid-2000s?  Or is it that the movie harkens back to the days when Ben Affleck made bad career choices?  If there's a sliver of hope for this movie, it's that director Brad Furman and screenwriters Brian Koppelman & David Levien have good movies in their filmographies (The Lincoln Lawyer and Rounders, respectively).  Runner Runner has a slight chance of being the pleasant surprise of fall 2013 instead of the forgettable flop of 2004.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Gemma Arterton Anthony Mackie, David Costabile, Ben Schwartz, and Oliver Cooper,.  Runner Runner opens October 4th.
