Russell Brand May Replace Jim Carrey in Larry Charles Comedy PIERRE PIERRE

     July 30, 2012

When last we reported on the comedy Pierre Pierre, it had Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) attached to star and Larry Charles (Borat) on board to direct.  Now it looks as if Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek) is in early talks to displace Carrey.  Pierre Pierre centers on an obnoxious Frenchman who steals the Mona Lisa and attempts to transport it to from Paris to London.  Along the way, he runs afoul of “French police inspector, a serial killer named Pigeonshit and his own brothel-owning mother.”  Hit the jump for more on Brand and Pierre Pierre.

Variety reports russell-brand-pierre-pierrethat Brand is in talks to star in Pierre Pierre rather than Carrey.  It comes as a bit of a late switch as the off-center comedy was set to shoot this summer.  The picture had also reportedly bumped its budget up to accommodate its star power, but there’s no word on how Brand’s worth affects that over Carrey’s.  A Black List script written by Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton, Pierre Pierre also originally had Jason Reitman set to direct, before the project went into turnaround.

Brand, who recently wrapped Diablo Cody’s untitled directorial debut with Julianne Hough, will voice a character in Despicable Me 2, starring Steve Carell, Al Pacino and Kristen Wiig.  Brand is also set to star in Paramount’s family friendly flick, The Hauntrepreneur. The producing team will consist of Escape Artists partners Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch along with Brian Sher of Category 5.
