I have yet to love one Ryuhei Kitamura film, but I still like the guy and his films enough that I will continue to check out what ever he does. You might not know the director’s name but you have probably heard of the cult horror/action film, “Versus”, which he directed back in 2000. He has since transitioned to Hollywood after tackling one horror icon’s work with last year’s flawed but fun Clive Barker adaptation, “Midnight Meat Train”. The director is now aiming to adapt another horror icon’s work with an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, “Home Delivery”. You more after the jump.
Bloody Disgusting scored this exclusive and they also provide this plot synopsis of the short story, which can be found in King’s “Nightmares and Dreamscapes”: “Maddie Pace is a young, pregnant widow whose husband recently died in a fishing boat accident. When reanimated dead bodies start attacking the living, the only defense is to destroy the dead and burn the pieces. It isn’t long before Maddie must confront the zombie of her dead husband and decide if she is strong enough to watch him die all over again.”
I’m pretty burnt out on zombie films but I’m interested in seeing what King and Kitamura can bring to the sub-genre. I’m a big Stephen King fan but I have yet to read “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” so I have no idea if the story could make a great film or not. I’m just sure that it will probably feature Kitamura’s trademark stylish visuals and that it will end up being pretty fun since Kitamura’s film are anything but dull. Bloody Disgusting also tells us that the film is still in the early stages of development.
