RZA‘s directorial debut, The Man with the Iron Fists, will hit theaters next month, and he’s already set to work on his follow-up. According to Heat Vision, RZA is set to direct an adaptation of Grant Morrison‘s new comic book, Happy! Morrison will write the script, and RZA will produce alongside Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained).
Hit the jump for more details on Happy! The Man with the Iron Fists stars RZA, Russell Crowe, Cung Le, Lucy Liu, Byron Mann, Rick Yune, David Bautista, and Jamie Chung. The film opens November 2nd.
Happy! has a delightfully goofy premise. Per Heat Vision:
Happy! centers on Nick Sax, a scummy corrupt ex-cop and hitman. After a hit goes bad and Sax is left gravely injured, he is suddenly able to see Happy, a cheerful little blue horse who won’t give in to adversity, no matter what unpleasant obstacles come in the way. Days before Christmas, Sax teams up with the saccharine horse to the save the life of a troubled kid and maybe find redemption amid the squalor of his city.
Heat Vision says the comic, which debuted last month, has been compared to It’s a Wonderful Life, Sin City, and Care Bears although I imagine it’s a mixture of the three rather than individually. The trailers for Man with the Iron Fists shows that RZA has some visual flair to spare, so this sounds like it could be a good fit for the director, especially if Morrison is on board to write the script.
