Director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) continues to cast up his movie musical adaptation of Les Miserables, and it looks as though yet another versatile actor had joined the cast. LondonNet (via The Playlist) reports that Sacha Baron Cohen will be lending his vocal talents to the character of Monsieur Thenardier. Hugh Jackman is set as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe is taking on Javert, Anne Hathaway is poised to play Fantine, and Eddie Redmayne is onboard as Marius. After flirting with the idea of shooting the film in 3D, Hooper recently confirmed that he settled on going the traditional 2D route for fear of alienating some of the audience with the sometimes obtrusive format. The director still has a few roles to cast, with Lea Michele, Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood said to be vying for the role of Eponine. Cohen continues to stretch his acting chops with this role, proving he can do much more than shock people with outrageous characters. He can currently be seen in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, and is set to appear in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Fans of his comedy needn't worry though, as he’ll return to his character-centric comedic roots in next spring’s The Dictator.
