Sam Raimi Says He Plans to Work on EVIL DEAD 4 Script This Summer

     March 1, 2013

Well this is a bit of pleasantly surprising news.  Ever since Army of Darkness was released in 1992, Evil Dead fans have been wondering if/when we would see a fourth film in the beloved horror franchise.  Though writer/director Sam Raimi never publicly shut the idea down, the production of the Evil Dead remake left many wondering if Raimi had closed the door on the old franchise in favor of putting together a new series of Evil Dead films.  Well it appears that Deadites can have their cake and eat it too, as Raimi recently revealed that he and his brother Ivan Raimi plan to work on the script for Evil Dead 4 this summer.  Hit the jump for more.

evil-dead-4-bruce-campbellWhile speaking at a press conference for his upcoming film Oz the Great and Powerful, Raimi dropped the Evil Dead bomb (via Bleeding Cool):

“I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer.”

Exciting stuff, yeah?  There’s no guarantee that Sam and Ivan will actually complete the script this summer, and there’s still the question of financing, but it’s absolutely reassuring to know that the series’ creators are keen on moving forward with another sequel.  It’ll be interesting to see what kind of story they cook up (Ash has to come back, right?) and how/if this fits in with director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming remake.  The redo was produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, who both had a heavy hand in the production, so it’s not as if they’re putting together Evil Dead 4 just to spite the remake.

I’m sure we’ll hear more from Raimi concerning Evil Dead 4 in the coming months as the release of both Oz the Great and Powerful and the Evil Dead remake loom closer.  For now, keep those fingers crossed.

    Sadly, this will never happen.

You are being neither pessimistic nor cynical…you are simply a student of history.

    Aaaaaaaand nobody cares.

Why are you commenting on this board if you don’t care? You saw the story and cared enough to read it and leave a comment. Are you just so cool that you don’t care about anything? I’m sure a few people care. I’d rather watch Evil Dead 4 instead of the gore porn remake. But that’s just me. I don’t speak for everyone.

Always surprised with these comments. When ED came out in 83, it was seen as a horrific gory movie, banned in the UK, tagged as a video nasty – it was seen as the torture porn of the day. Why is it bad that the remake is trying to do the same?

As a huge fan, not sure a 4th instalment 20 years on is a good idea. Don’t want to see my favourite trilogy go Crystal Skull.

      • ScaredForMovies

Dude, the preview had 3 separate occasions of people barfing in other people’s mouths. Say what you will but that’s pretty excessive. I agree with him but like he said it’s just an opinion and he doesn’t speak for everyone. I’m not surprised by the comment. I agree with him. You don’t. The problem I have with this movie is that I’m sick of all remakes in general. It’s gotten out of hand.

By nobody you actually mean you, and you alone, right??

Aaaaaaaand you’re totally wrong. Though you may have been right if you said, “Aaaaaaaand nobody believes you.”

Hail to the King once again, baby! Who’d say the ED remake would actually help ED4!

Maybe, just maybe Star Trek – The Next Generation will get a 5th movie, Brosnan will get a film Bond film, Keaton will get a third Batman film, Paul McGann will return and star off where the tv movie left off in Doctor Who, and there maybe a Alien 5 with Weaver, there could be a 4th Raimi Spider Man film, there could be a REAL Star Wars 7, not from the hack jj abrams. I say that because there is an evil dead remake, and yet there could be a 4th film in the canon series.

all of you in favor of this sound like the same chorus that was in favor a 4th Indiana Jones. Savor what’s already there. Too much of a good thing turns into another Die Hard movie…

This news is just a part of a campaign for “Oz”.

So this year there will be a film in cinemas called THE EVIL DEAD. And next year in cinemas there will be a film called …THE EVIL DEAD 4? This shit just blew my mind……

  • Jens

If the younger audience likes the remake and they will brush up on the three original films. This ways there actually MIGHT be a chance of of fourth installment in the original series to be a success even though the last movie was over 20 years ago and most of the current moviegoers haven’t seen it.

    He’s also directing Ghostbusters 3
