Sam Raimi Sells Three New TV Series to FOX, ABC and CBS

We just found out Sam Raimi is developing a new film about an Earth Defense Force, but Raimi has also been busy on the small screen too. In addition to his current work on Oz, The Great and Powerful, Deadline reports the filmmaker has just sold three brand new hour-long TV series to three of the major broadcast networks. ABC, FOX, and CBS have all respectively picked up a legal drama, a police procedural and a sci-fi series from Raimi’s Stars Road Entertainment.

At ABC, Dee Johnson (last year’s showrunner for The Good Wife) is developing the legal drama which will focus a top female prosecutor in Los Angeles described as a “female vigilante with a law license.” Oh, how fresh! Over at FOX is the more promising series Smokers from comic book and TV writer Brian K. Vaughan. The story, based on an original idea by Vaughan, is about a documentary crew following working class heroes who exterminate alien threats in deep space. That’s what I’m talkin’ about! Finally, at CBS, Lancaster comes from writer Andrew Lipsitz (CSI, CSI:NY) and follows a Scotland yard detective who joins the LAPD. These may all be broadcast network shows, but apparently Raimi’s production banner with Joshua Donen is now aiming for some deals on the cable networks. Stay tuned as these projects develop.
