AICN and Variety are reporting Sam Raimi has signed on to direct Warner Bros. live-action film adaptation of the popular video game "World of Warcraft". The plan is for Sam to develop the property while he completes "Spider-Man 4", that way he can shoot the film soon after production wraps.

While some have wondered when we'd get the first great video game movie, I think we may have finally found the answer. You want more...it's after the jump:

For years and years, the Hollywood Studios have been trying to nickel and dime video game adaptations and each one has been an insult to the fans and video game communities. The reason is no one understands that fans aren't going to just show up cause the name "Doom" is in the title, or "Street Fighter". Fanboys and fangirls are some of the smartest people when it comes to loving video games and geek culture, and they know when they're being taken advantage of.

That's why most video game movies fall. Everyone knows they're bad the second they see a trailer.

So for many years everyone who loves video games have wondered what it would take to make a great video game movie. I've always said it would take a real filmmaker and a movie studio willing to take a chance.

Today, after years of waiting, Sam Raimi and Warner Bros. have risen to the challenge and I think "Warcraft" can be great.

Of course with the way directors sign onto multiple projects and the way things change in Hollywood when the wind blows in another direction, until cameras start to role, nothing is 100%. But Sam Raimi doesn't sign onto multiple projects like Guillermo del Toro, so I think this one might actually happen.

I really hope it does. This one could be great.
