Sam Rockwell Cast in COWBOYS & ALIENS

     May 3, 2010

Sam Rockwell will re team with Iron Man 2 director, Jon Favreau, for his upcoming adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens.  Based on the graphic novel by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Cowboys & Aliens is written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek) and Damon Lindelof (Lost).  The film is set in Arizona during the 1800s and it follows a group of cowboys and Apache Indians as they band together to fight hostile aliens.

Heat Vision is reporting that Rockwell will play a bar owner named Doc who joins in the pursuit of the aliens.  Rockwell will now be joining the previously announced cast which includes Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, and Olivia Wilde.  I’ve been rooting for Rockwell to become a huge star for years now so between Iron Man 2 and this, it’s great news for Rockwell fans.

Cowboys & Aliens is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2011 with shooting beginning in July.  You can hit the jump for a brief synopsis of the comic.

The graphic novel mixes Western and science fiction genres. Set in 1800s Arizona, a skirmish between cowboys and Apaches is interrupted by the crash landing of a space ship. The alien commander plans to tame the Old West and enslave everyone, but the cowboys and Native Americans turn their six-guns against the alien invaders.
