The coming of age comedy/drama The Way, Way Back opens this weekend in limited release.  The film marks the directorial debut of The Descendants co-writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, and centers on a 14-year-old boy (Liam James) who spends his summer vacation bonding with the manager of a water park (Sam Rockwell) while staying with his mother (Toni Collette) and her overbearing boyfriend (Steve Carell).  For more on the film, watch the trailer.  The film also starsMaya RudolphRob CorddryZoe Levin, AnnaSophia Robb, and Amanda Peet.

At the recent Los Angeles press day I landed an interview with Rockwell and Rudolph.  They talked about their great on-screen chemistry, Christopher Walken, who broke the most during filming, Dunkin Donuts, and filming in Massachusetts.  I also tried to get Rudolph to talk about Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice.  Hit the jump to watch.

Sam Rockwell and Maya Rudolph:

  • Interview starts with a lot of joking around and Christopher Walken
  • When did they realize they had great chemistry on screen
  • Who broke the most during takes. Rockwell mentions a “snot explosion”
  • What was it like filming in Massachusetts and being surrounded by Dunkin Donuts
  • Maya talks about how Dunkin Donuts expects you to know your order
  • I try and get Maya to talk about Inherent Vice
