Quick — before you read the headline, think of four male actors you’d like to see in a movie together. Now, less than 2% of you named Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, and Christopher Walken. But 14% combined two or more of these actors, and an impressive 37% of your lists included at least one. This bodes well for Seven Psychopaths, the black comedy which secured Farrell, Rockwell, Rourke, and Walken at the Cannes Film Festival today. Per Variety, the story centers on “a screenwriter (Farrell) struggling for inspiration for his script, Seven Psychopaths, who gets drawn into the dog kidnapping schemes of his oddball friends (Rockwell and Walken).” How can you not love a movie that casts Rockwell and Walken as “oddball friends”/dog kidnappers separated by 26 years in age? Rourke will play a gangster who causes trouble when his dog goes missing. (Given Rourke’s love of dogs and general flirtation with insanity, he may not know he is in Seven Psychopaths.)
The project reunites Farrell and In Bruges writer/director Martin McDonagh, not to mention In Bruges producers Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, and Tessa Ross. The ineffable Meghan Ellison (True Grit) is also on board as producer.
Okay, so In Bruges is my favorite movie. So telling me its writer/director is reuniting with Colin Farrell and adding in Rockwell, Walken, and Rourke is some of the BEST MOVIE NEWS I HAVE EVER HEARD.
Ellison stepping up again! In Bruges is brilliant. I liked it so much that I grabbed all of McDonagh’s plays (he was a renowned playwright before In Bruges) and they are just as dark, clever and funny. I’ve been waiting for news of a second film and this information does not disappoint. I did’t think there would be any for awhile since he is working with Tom Waits on a play now.
This made my day. Great cast and an fucking awesome idea!!! Haza!!
Ha. That’s an epic cast and synopsis. I can’t wait for this.
is good is this news. To watch out for this movie is.
I’ve always wanted to see Christian Bale and Colin Farrell do another movie together after having no scenes together in The New World (2005). They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film.
I’ll see what I can do.
Sounds slightly amazing. I have always thought of Sam Rockwell as one of my favorites since Moon. I really want him to be the lead though.
Martin McDonagh, the writer director of In Bruges is making a film with these guys, and it’s about dog kidnapping???
I am in with a bottle of gin my friends. This has suddenly become one of my most anticipated films *very* quickly.
Holy crap yes
Too bad it’s not 1975, or Bruce Dern would be at the top of their wish list. Come to think of it, he’s probably not busy. Get on that, people!
This news has me quite excited. In Bruges was a great movie (I certainly will never hear Raglan Road in quite the same way after seeing it).
Sam Rockwell Rocks, and you can’t have enough “Chistopher Walken”, but the question is: Who is the Director ?
have been waiting for news about mcdonaghs next, this made my day. too bad brendan gleeson hasnt been cast… yet
