Here’s the official synopsis for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World:

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot FuzzShaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass–and now is back in town–to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past–from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

    That's very… jerky.

Cool poster, but who cares about a movie thats in last place at the box office? Oh wait, Matt Goldberg.

  • Excpired

Because box office money is the defining factor in a films quality and success. We all know Terminator doesn't mean crap, and Mad Max.. oh what about Donnie Darko, what movie is that? It sucks, right?

All movies that never hit #1 on the box office, and movies that didn't make crap in the box office either. Lets not forget that neither of Edgar Wrights past films (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), made much money in the box office either. Both of those films are living on in cult status, which will only continue to grow over the years. Think before you type.

Michael Cera looks goofy in the animated poster, I think I prefer it regular. D: They should have made those limited edition posters the main poster for the movie, those things are epic.

(IN REPLY TO Excpired) I do think before I type. Believe me I do. I think out everything clearly and consisely. Now my spelling may be off from time to time, however I usually get the job done. The point I was trying to make is the point that Matt keeps pedeling this movie when it has been proven to not be a film that many people enjoyed and or wanted to see. I completely and totally love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. To sit there and compare 2/3 of the blood and ice cream trilogy is crazy. Those movies are loads better than Scott Pilgrim(I assume, as I have yet to see it so far). Now I have every intention of seeing Scott Pilgrim, but the fact of the matter is, it wasnt something I HAD TO SEE IN THE THEATERS. The fact is, if and when I do see that movie, it will be every other Michael Cerra formula for his movies. He is awkward guy who wants girl, awkward guy somehow gets girl. The end. Cerra is funny, I just want to see him go out of his comfort zone, so that he doesnt end up being like Jeff Goldbloom or Topher Grace, and play himself in every movie. Dont get me wrong, his schtick is funny if thats what you want to call it, its like Jim Carrey being known for slapstick, but Jim Carrey steps outside of his comfort zone every once in a while. I dont think Cerra could have pulled off The #23, Jim barely did! But he tried darnit! I'm just ready to see Cerra do something different than HIM you know? I didnt mean to offend the lovers of Scott Pilgrim, but I was just trying to put things into perspective. Oh yeah! One more thing, you should think before you write things MR Excpired…Shaun of the dead's budget was 4Million, it grossed 30Million…so yeah, although not the box office sweet heart, it did still make its budget back a couple of times, oh yeah! another thing, Hot Fuzz, their budget was 8Million, and it grossed 80Million, Id call that a success…I would say those two movies are a success…and I will leave you with this final closing thought…Scott Pilgrims budget was about 80 or so million dollars…GULP! Guess what, its made 20 Million back. So yeah, this one was a failure all things considered, the later, not failures, so think before YOU write Mr. Excpired. Thanks everybody, youve been a great audience, be sure to tip your waitress, AND IM OUT LIKE LAKE TROUT! unless. you respond. PEACE!

Just because it doesn't make a lot of money at the box office doesn't mean that the ones who saw it didn't enjoy it. In fact, from what I've heard most people who've seen it have enjoyed it. Also, I haven't seen it either (though I want to).

  • Dustin Mac

(In Response to monsieurlebeaux) Good Lord! I try to explain…anyway, Im quite positive, that the people that saw it, probably did in fact enjoy it. That is not in debate, its just that it did not have wide spread appeal. Obviously the fans of Scott Pilgrim the comic, were fans of Scott Pilgrim the movie, uh duh. The main point that I was trying to make is that Michael Cerra is Michael Cerra in ALL his his movies. To me, this may have been the Achilles heel. I believe that people in general, NOT the fans of Michael Cerra/Scott Pilgrim respectively, are tired of his formula as an actor. They are ready to see him grow as an actor also. So, in response to you monsieurlebeaux, Im postive people out there loved Scott Pilgrim, but they are unfortunately, CLEARLY, in the minority. SO! On that note, please understand what I am trying to say.

I stopped reading your book of a comment as soon as you said “I have yet to see it.”

    Your opinion is invalid.

Also, “it has been proven to not be a film that many people enjoyed.” WHAT?! Have you talked to ANYONE who’s seen it?

I have, and it was good, well worth the praise.
