Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and the horrible adaptation of the fantastic animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender may have hit theaters but the properties aren’t done fighting.  YouTube user herff has created a delightful mash-up of the Scott Pilgrim trailer with footage from the Last Airbender TV series.  It’s damn funny and while I loved Edgar Wright’s film, I’m now starting to wonder if the fights would have been better if Scott had wielded a staff/glider.

Hit the jump to check out the mash-up.

Video via Wright’s Twitter feed.

Matt, really? Get over this movie dude, like America has. I know it has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, but seriously…stop posting stuff about this movie, for love of God. I love your site Matt, I really REALLY do, best movie news site on the internet. But accept that this movie has been defeated. 80mil Budget, grossing 20 mil…yeaaaaaah…sorry, not a successful movie. Again, i’m sure its a great flick and all, its just people were not interested in it. As I stated in my last post, on your last Scott Pilgrim blurb, I, and I am guessing many others are getting tired of Michael Cerra playing Michael Cerra in every movie. He has the same formula in and out.
    1. Start off with awkward guy.
    2. Give awkward guy love interest.
    3. Make awkward guy out of his comfort zone to win girl.
    4. Awkward guy gets girl.
    5. Roll credits.

Im just saying its getting tired and boring watching him on the silver screen. I want to see him grow as an actor like I know he can. And before I get any responses to this (if any), to all the Scott Pilgrim superfans out there(That means you too Matt Goldberg), you have to admit it to yourself that the movie was not wildly appealing to the masses, and was a far cry from the success of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in the theater and in perception, and in cult statusdum (just made up the word statusdum). Shaun of the dead made its budget back a couple times, Hot Fuzz got its budget back 10 times over. So, I would say this time out Edgar Wright did not have the same Midas touch that he had for the first two of the blood and ice cream trilogy (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz). And to further clarify, making 1/4 your budget back (I know, so far) is proof that the majority of people out there couldn’t care less about this movie, so that tells me, you are writing to a very small audience whenever you pull out something else to talk about with this movie. I know you hated THE EXPENDABLES Matt and you reviewed it horribly for some reason, probably expecting something other than an 80′s action movie, but you cant deny the success of the movie on a public appeal contest. Scott Pilgrim is definitely against the world, and the sooner you realize that Matt, the better. Oh yeah, and give me a job. Please. God please give me a job lol. I know writing contrary comments to your Scotty Pill posts doesn’t help, but I’m honest dammit lol! All right, I’m spent. Sorry again to any fan boys, I certainly have things that I am a super nerd for so I can appreciate where your coming from, but come on…come on……I mean, come on…

This. You’ll probably still get ridiculed for even having THOUGHT this, but I appreciate your honesty. There is yet one who agrees with you who visits this site.

It’s funny because the girl who voiced Katara on Avatar was one of Ramona’s evil ex’s.

I don’t mind hearing about Pilgrim, people are still talking about it and doing creative stuff like these YouTube clips. Maybe folks will actually go and see it before it closes; would be such a bad thing at this stage?

One thing that I DO want to comment on is the matter of Michael Cera. I sincerely wish people would get past the whole “Cera isn’t trying/he plays the same guy” comments. Such statements have honestly become more boring and predictable than anything this kid has ever put on screen. I wonder what America would think if it had actually bothered to go out and see this guys’ 2010 films? In my opinion, he made significant efforts to experiment and stretch his wings.

Youth in Revolt – an odd little movie where he played a rather cerebral, creepy young guy who devolves into stuff like arson, theft and drugging people to get the gal. Sorry, I did not see anything so disturbing like that in Superbad or Juno. (Evan never felt right fooling around with a drunk Becca for instance). And please, for the love of God, can someone tell me what part of Nick and Nora explodes into a demonstration of Cera’s apparently secret martial arts skills, I’d love to see it! Will ANYBODY out there give this kid just one gram of respect for trying to expand his physical limits and learning how to do stunts/fights in Pilgrim?! Shouldn’t such efforts count for something!?! I think so!

Anyway, mainstream America decided that it wasn’t interested in SP and Cera is being singled out for Pilgrim’s “defeat” (LOL really? Nice; ), regardless of whether they have seen it or not. Guess that’s the doenside of being a lead; he’ll have to deal with it. I don’t have any answers as to why it bombed but as someone here mentioned; it’s time to get over it. I just want to suggest though before we move on, to please, in the interest of being fair, consider at least giving Michael props for TRYING to pull off an ambitious, unorthodox action/comedy/romance/musical. Both he and that film deserve better than a brush off…

Wow. That was pretty pathetic. This was a great mash up and I for one am not tired of hearing about this film. It was a lot of fun and whether or not it made it’s budget it WAS a successful film that deserved better. And Cera played a much more nuanced and interesting character than he usually does in this flick. All the performances were top knotch, I’ve never seen anything quite like this film. Wright is to be commended. If you’re tired of reading Matt’s Pilgrim posts, you could, y’know not read them. I mean, come on… come on….

ur an idiot dustin. no one made u click on the link to read more. here’s a suggestion: when you see something you don’t like on the homepage, don’t click on it. don’t be a tool and waste space on the comment thread because ur annoyed of this movie as if someone is making u sit down and watch it and all its affiliated news.

Chirs, I give Michael Cerra credit for what he did in Scott Pilgrim, you make a valid point that I will tip my hat at your for. There was more than the standard “formula” that I had mentioned earlier…however, remove the special effects, and the formula is all that remains. But yes, this was a bit out of his comfort zone considering all the hollywood wizardry that is involved with the film. Youth in Revolt I honestly enjoyed, more specifically his “bad side”. I guess I just don’t want to see him be type cast is all, and when he takes roles that boil down to his formula, audiences will eventually grow tired of it, and that is all he will be known for…I like Cerra, he was funny as hell when he was on The Tim and Eric Show Great Job! He is good at playing awkward guy, I just want to see what else he is good at.

But Chris, you made some valid points, well written, so in closing I’ll give Michael Cerra all due credit for going outside of his norm doing kung fu and special effects. But outside of that, he is still “Awkward guy after girl” in the end.

Dustin Mac, “awkward guy after girl”? Really? What about the parts where he’s being blindly confident, selfish, and careless? Would any of his previous characters immediately hit on girls with no hesitation? Have any of his previous characters “left a trail of girls in their wake”? Have any of his previous characters been this narcissistic? Or cartoonish and animated? While this isn’t necessarily a wild reinvention, Scott Pilgrim is nothing like Evan from Superbad, or Paulie Bleeker from Juno, or George Michael, or Oh in Year One.

Michael Cera will always have that face. And he will always have that voice. He can’t change those things. And if those two things alone are enough to keep him perpetually as the “awkward guy” in your eyes, then I question your ability to make anything other than broad generalizations and surface level assessments when it comes to his performances.
