Stunt coordinator-turned-director Scott Waugh is aiming high for his next feature film.  It was announced today that the filmmaker behind Act of Valor and this year’s Need for Speed is in final talks to direct the $120 million sci-fi epic Inversion.  The story follows two unlikely heroes, a young Chinese scientist and a street smart American expat, on a “frenzied journey across the globe to save Earth from an apocalyptic threat—a total reversal of gravity that causes whole cities and civilizations to uproot and plummet into the sky.”  Pre-production is currently underway, and the plan is to start filming in late April 2015.

Inversion has a script by Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and David Arata (Spy Game), with Michael Nozik, Markus Barmettler, and Philip Lee onboard to produce.  Need for Speed remains one of the worst films I’ve seen this year so I can’t say I’m enthused by this news, but it should be interesting to see what Waugh does with this kind of budget.  Read the full press release after the jump.
