I was not happy with that first trailer for MTV's Scream TV series. I was hoping for a promo that would pay homage to one of my favorite films of all-time, but instead all I got was a cheap attempt to earn some buzz by leaning on the well-known horror franchise. No, you can't do the same things on MTV that you can do in a rated-R movie as far as blood and gore go, but you can still dish out jokes in the vein of the original film, introduce appealing characters and throw in the damn Ghostface mask for that matter. For lack of better terms, that first trailer felt very MTV, too MTV for anyone who's been watching Scream obsessively since the 90s.

A brand new trailer for the series just dropped and it's even more MTV-ish than the last but, oddly enough, I love it. I'm not going to spoil the gag, but I can guarantee you'll have some fun with it if you're familiar with or watch other MTV shows. However, I do wonder when the Scream cast will finally step into the spotlight. It's nice that the stars featured in this promo were willing to chip in and give the new series a push, but this piece and Bella Thorne can't carry the promotional campaign until the series kicks off on June 30th. Sure, Thorne is in there to reenact an iconic scene from the original film, but Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor Klaus, John Karna, Connor Weil, Amadeus Serafini and Carlson Young will be the ones leading the series.

Here's the official synopsis for MTV's Scream TV series:

What starts as a YouTube video going viral, soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town's troubled past.
