Now that we've gotten a clear look at the new serial killer mask for MTV's upcoming Scream TV series, we can get back to the task of meeting the principal characters ... before they're ultimately slaughtered. From the trailers and promos we've watched so far, it's obvious that MTV is trying to keep the spirit of the Scream movies alive while also skewing towards their particular demographics. Can it work? Well that depends on what you're looking for: Do you want to relive the satirical slasher films in the television medium, or are you interested in watching a mysterious serial killer take down a cast full of the young, attractive, and entitled? If this new trailer is any indication, Scream might actually be able to satisfy both desires, though to what extent remains to be seen.

And here's more about the upcoming series, courtesy of the latest press release:

When Nina, a gorgeous entitled teen at Lakewood High School, is murdered in an apparent crime of passion, it exposes the inner workings of the town’s complex social hierarchy. After Audrey, a young artistic loner, is “outed” via cyberbullying, she has to find a way to hold her head up high with the help of Noah, her nerdy, hyper-intelligent best friend, and a renewed relationship with Emma, her former “bestie” from elementary school. In the meantime, Emma’s mom, Maggie (the town’s medical examiner) works with the town’s sheriff, Clark, to solve the murder and determine if it’s connected to a crime spree from the town’s dark past -- a murder spree committed by a previous generation’s “bullying victim” Brandon James.

“Scream” stars Willa Fitzgerald as “Emma,” Bex Taylor-Klaus as “Audrey,” Carlson Young as “Brooke,” Amadeus Serafini as “Kieran,” John Karna as “Noah,” Connor Weil as “Will,” Tracy Middendorf as “Maggie” and Jason Wiles as “Sheriff Hudson.”

MTV and Dimension TV (The Weinstein Company) bring the series adaptation of the hit horror film franchise, "Scream" to television with Bob and Harvey Weinstein as executive producers. In addition, Jill Blotevogel ("Harper's Island," "Ravenswood") and Jaime Paglia ("Arrow") will executive produce and show run, with John Shiban ("Hell on Wheels", "Breaking Bad") on board as a consulting producer. The pilot was written by Jay Beattie & Dan Dworkin ("Criminal Minds," "The Event," and "Revenge") and Jill Blotevogel. Additional Executive Producers are Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.

Scream premieres Tuesday, June 30th at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
