2011 Screen Actors Guild Nominations Load up on Snubs and Dumb Choices

Critics organizations have been doling out their honors for 2011 and for the most part, I feel like the nominations have been fair.  Today, the Screen Actors Guild announced their 2011 nominations and it’s Snub City (which is adjacent to Neglectedville and south of Ignoredtown).  The only nomination I really appreciate is Demian Bichir getting nominated for A Better Life.  It was a solid but underseen movie and he’s great in it.  There are some actors who I feel are more deserving of a nomination, but the guy deserves a career boost.

I can’t say the same for moronic nominations like Leonardo DiCaprio for J. Edgar, Nick Nolte for Warrior (everything he says sounds like a belch), and Glenn Close for Albert Nobbs.  The biggest snub is Albert Brooks being overlooked for Drive.  Critics’ organizations were showing him a lot of love and I’m not sure why SAG isn’t.  Other idiotic snubs include Michael Fassbender for Shame, Woody Harrelson for Rampart, Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes for Martha Marcy May Marlene, Kirsten Dunst for Melancholia, Charlize Theron for Young Adult, and Shailene Woodley for The Descendants.  Hit the jump for the list of nominations, which also include the nods for TV actors.  Winners will be announced on January 29th.

I dont know,… but OCTAVIA SPENCER we already knew that she would be nominee. BÉRÉNICE BEJO too. JESSICA CHASTAIN had an excellent year with The Help, Tree of Life and Take Shelter.
    The rest I can’t say.
I think Sean Bean should have been nominate…
But I think is hard to tell if were snubs. Honestly, Brad Pitt did a amazing job in Tree of Life.

  • felliniboy

SAG always had unique choices. they’ll nominate Leo because it’s really one of the hardest portrayal in a film, and critics says he NAILS it. Ebert called it a Tour-De-Force. Actors love actors who’s in a TOUR-DE-FORCE. you may hate the film what, but everyone admired Leo’s performance. the biggest and most questionable snub is Oldman as every actor wants to be Gary Oldman.

ps Matt, you might want to change your headline. Remember that this is not editorial. Report the news!

  • SP1234

The snubs continue for Gary Oldman and Rooney Mara. And Andy Serkis was snubbed. :( I’m happy about Armie Hammer, I thought he was terrific in J. Edgar.

  • Michael

Why do I not see Ryan Gosling’s name up there? Drive was the best film of the year. Hands up, hands down. Fassbender deserves to have his his nomination as well.

  • Esther

And what happened with Michael Fassbender, Gary Oldman, Kirsten Dunst, Charlize Theron, and Elizabeth Olsen?

At least Leo DiCaprio is a great actor but George Clooney…

    These nominations sucks!!!!!

    • Robert

George Clooney deserved the nomination more than DiCaprio did.

    • Gisele

I don’t understand why Fassbender and Oldman didn’t get a nomination. Shame on them! They lost credibility.

  • SP1234

“Everything he says sounds like a belch” How dare you! Nolte had one of the most heartfelt performances this year in Warrior and I’m happy he’s getting a lot of nominations for it. Now that’s just ignorant.

    • Cali Kid

Couldn’t agree more. Nolte deserves a nom over Albert Brooks. Albert Brooks was actually the worst part of Drive. There wasn’t much wrong with that movie but he was awful. No idea what anyone else sees in his “performance”

  • Goop

Where is HOMELAND and more importantly, Claire Danes!? Maybe they feel that awarding her for Temple Grandin was enough, who knows…

  • gerard kennelly

    gary oldman
    tom hardy
    kirsten dunst
    michael fassbender
    albert brooks

    i could go on and on… :(

  • droopy

I won’t even comment on the snubs, there are too many, but what I don’t understand is why they release the list now and don’t wait till early 2012 when all the award contenders have been released. why? I mean the amapas do that, why don’t everyone else? because they want to be ‘first’ bla bla bla. I don’t get it

  • Mitch McCormick

    Where is Giancarlo Esposito?
In my opinion he outshined Bryan Cranston this year. And I love me some Walter White.

  • Vigo

Cast list of The Help is put in with The Descendants.

  • Jen

    Seriously? No Community? Uhg.

  • broski

The butthurt is strong with Goldberg.

  • bobafett

SAG is so pretentious…They almost always go for the critical darlings…

Dexter has had a down season. (although the temp has been turned up in the last three shows).

Sofia Vergara nominated…COME ON! (She’s known for two things and neither of them is acting). If the preformances on Modern Family are so good is should be one of the top 10 shows on TV, which it is NOT.

SNUBBED: Gary Oldman, Evan Peters and Charlie Hunnam.
At least Hugh Laurie isn’t nominated.

And Claire Danes is AMAZING (in ALL CAPS) in Homeland. Biggest Snub of the Year. Perhaps the vote was done before the airing of Ep 1-11?

  • Kai

“Snub City (which is adjacent to Neglectedville and south of Ignoredtown)”

    Hahaha

  • Joe

Parks and Rec snubbed. Should have been nominated for best comedy ensemble, best comedy actress (Poehler), and best comedy actor(Offerman). Don’t understand love for 30 Rock and Two and a Half Men.
