See Kathyrn Bigelow hunt Bill Paxton in a James Cameron Music Video – Yes, Really

Much has been made about the upcoming Oscars battle between exes Kathyrn Bigelow and James Cameron – with their movies, The Hurt Locker and Avatar, respectively, tied with a leading nine nominations each – but as you’ll see from this crazy music video, they often had a lot of fun when they were still on speaking terms.

The clip is for the song “Reach” by an ’80s new wave band called Martini Ranch, which just happened to feature actor Bill Paxton (which was all news to me until just now), and the video was directed by Cameron himself. As you’ll see on the jump, it’s the definition of ’80s excess, and will have you yearning for the days when music videos at their best were elevated to mini-movies. In something that looks like a surreal mashup of Bigelow’s Near Dark (still her best movie in my book) and Deadwood, Paxton stars as a bank robber on the run in the Wild West, and Near Dark stars Adrian Pasdar and Lance Henriksen make appearances, as does Judge Reinhold. Best of all, however, is that Bigelow herself leads an all-female posse of bounty hunters on his trail, and to be as piggish as possible, just looks sensationally hot doing it.

To tell you any more would just spoil the fun, so hit the jump for the video.

Thanks to Heat Vision Blog for finding the video:

Are Cameron and Bigelow really not on speaking terms? I know Cameron was at Bigelow's premiere for Hurt Locker…

I would love to see Cameron & Bill Paxton team up again. Paxtons car salesman/fake spy/ladykiller character in “TRUE LIES” was fantastic and could easily deserve his own spinnoff movie series from that weasily character. He stole the show for me.

Also, maybe Paxton will be in AVATAR II ? Cameron already reteamed with old favorite Sigourney, be good to bring back some other old chums for the sequels. Wonder what a blue-Arnie would look like?

I think Cameron and Bigelow are on speaking terms. I recall seeing an videointerview were Cameron stated that he had seen Hurt Locker several times and he also gave Bigelow advise on what movie to make before Hurt Locker.
In return Bigelow had seen Avatar 4 times in different rough versions and gave input on the cut.

Don't miss Paul Reiser and Jenette Goldstein (Burke and Vasquez from Aliens). Aliens came out right before Near Dark so there is some major overlapping here. :)

Bigelow and Cameron ARE on speaking terms. They're still friends and watched each others rough cuts of Hurt Locker and Avatar and gave suggestions…just like they did for Point Break and T2 back in the day.

Cameron's still on good terms with all FOUR of his ex-wives. I consider that far more impressive then making the highest grossing film of all time twice. : )

Yeah from what I know about it they are actually really good friends and had been speaking before Golden Globes which is why he expected her to win the golden globe.

BTW, this video reminds me of how much New Wave sucked. Kind of funny.
