A few weeks ago, the internet was sent swiftly ablaze when Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander were spotted in New York City outside Tom’s Restaurant (aka the exterior façade for “Monk’s”) surrounded by filming equipment. The two were apparently working on something with Seinfeld creator Larry David, and many assumed they were shooting either a Super Bowl commercial or an episode of Seinfeld’s excellent web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Well Seinfeld has now gone on the record about the project, teasing a few more details and confirming that other Seinfeld characters will appear in the…thing. Hit the jump to read on.
Appearing on WFAN’s Boomer & Carton show this morning (via TV Line), Seinfeld said whatever it was that they were filming at Tom’s Restaurant is not a Super Bowl commercial nor an episode of Comedians, though he went on to tease, “[It’s] not not those things, either. It’s a secret project.” Seinfeld was tight-lipped about further details, but he did confirm that Alexander was playing George, other Seinfeld characters will appear, Larry David won’t be in front of the camera, and it is likely a “one-and-done” thing that will run in “short-ish form.” As for when we can see whatever this is, Seinfeld said it will be made available “very soon.”
So it has to be a Super Bowl spot, right? Whatever it is, I’m thrilled to see the gang back together once again. The Seinfeld season of Curb Your Enthusiasm was the perfect way to address an actual Seinfeld reunion, and I have faith that whatever Seinfeld and David have cooked up this time will be just as entertaining. Sound off in the comments below with your theories about this secret project, and if you’re itching to see more of Seinfeld, I highly suggest checking out his web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee right here.
