New Images from SERENA Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper

     March 31, 2014

New images have been released for the drama Serena. The pic is an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling Ron Rash novel about George (Bradley Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Jennifer Lawrence), a 1930s newlywed couple who travel to North Carolina to seize control of the timber industry. Infidelity and infertility leads Serena to plot the murder of George’s illegitimate son while attempting to keep their timber land from being taken by the government.  I’m very excited to see what Lawrence does with the role, since it sounds like a juicy part and unlike anything she’s done before.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film, directed by Susanne Bier (In a Better World) also stars Toby Jones and Rhys Ifans.  There’s currently no release date, but hopefully we’ll see it sometime this year.

Here’s the official synopsis for Serena:

The film follows newlyweds George (Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Lawrence) who travel from Boston to the mountains of North Carolina where they begin to build a timber empire in 1929. Serena soon shows herself to be the equal of any man: overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. Together, this king and queen rule their dominion, killing or vanquishing all who stand in the way of their ambitions. But when Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. And when she starts to suspect that George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons’ intense, passionate marriage begins to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.

Wow, I forgot about this movie. What happened to it? Didn’t it finish shooting, like, two years ago?

      It sucks balls most likely

A source says Bier took 18 months to edit it. Whether or not that will make it any better…

I don’t mind Cooper but I’m getting tired of him being in every one of her movies. It’s like Helena Bonham Carter working so much with Johnny Depp, just gets old after a while.

Kinda agree with you, but my main problem is Lawrence. I think she’s a fantastic actress, but she’s getting roles that are just too old for her. Both her David O. Russell roles were clearly meant for actresses much older than her (SLP more than AH), and Serena feels like another case of that.

Serena is a woman in her 20s

Wasn’t this shot before Lawrence was even cast in Silver Linings Playbook?

Serena Pemberton is 26 going on 27 when the story begins….Lawrence was 21 when Serena was filmed. It’s not exactly a stretch age wise and having read the book, holy shit does Lawrence look exactly as I pictured Serena looking. Really looking forward to this…great book. Serena is a raging sociopath…and so very calm. Serena makes Lady Macbeth look like a fucking wimp. I really am looking forward to seeing Lawrence play this character…quite a departure.
