Seth MacFarlane Asked to Return to Host 2014 Oscars

Seth MacFarlane got mixed reviews as host of the 2013 Academy Awards.  But the audience grew to 40.3 million viewers over the previous year hosted by Billy Crystal —more importantly, the audience grew younger, with 20% more 18-34 viewers.  This year’s telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will return to oversee the 2014 Oscars and have reportedly asked MacFarlane to host again.  A source tells Just Jared:

“After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again.  He’s not sure if he’s going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks.”

MacFarlane has stated he does not want to host again, tweeting “No way” shortly after the ceremony.  If he changes his mind, I would like to see him try again.  MacFarlane was admittedly hit-or-miss his first time around, but I would like for my generation to have a Bob Hope/Billy Crystal type—a go-to host.  The most important step toward that goal is to give a natural talent several chances to refine his approach.  I believe MacFarlane is qualified.  Next year’s Academy Awards are set for March 2, 2014.

As a man who can’t stand Family Guy, American Dad, or The Cleveland Show, it should stand to reason that if even I found Seth Macfarlane to do a pretty good job with the Oscars, then he deserves another chance. Sure it wasn’t all gold, but I enjoyed almost all of it. He tried harder than James Franco, and if you want it PG then go get Billy Crystal.

Seth was terrible and the only thing good about him was that he didnt give up like franco did or otherwise it would have been worse.
In my Point of view NPH would be a great choice to fill the slot as he can make people laugh and also he can do musical number plus he doesnt forget his lines!! :D (Watch his rapping performance @ Tony..Legend..ary!!)

HIMYM is terrible and he’d only be suitable because he’d be the offend no one host E.g. Jimmy Fallon or any other late night host

The Academy are a bunch of squares. We need him back to spice it up a little bit more and become more relevant to a larger audience.

I don’t mind. He had a lot of critics but, personally, I really enjoyed this year’s Oscars. I say give him another shot, he was an entertaining host in my opinion!

Uh he was pretty bad, lame attempts at trying to be risque and mtv movie awards style skits were mostly it. I say give it to someone like Russel Brand or Jamie Foxx

    • Rich woa

      Russel Brand?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    • Dantae

I really hope you’re being sarcastic

    • Adam

Russel Brand bombed at last year’s MTV movie awards . . . . so suffice it to say, Oscars is not gonna happen.

    • Keegan

russell brand or jamie foxx… those were the two guys you came up?

  • Farzan

Damn I really hope they bring Seth back. He was awesome as host and pretty much killed it. The academy would be stupid to not bring him back especially when the ratings have gone up.

This year’s Oscar’s were the funniest Oscars in a long time. Seth was great. As a television viewer, if yo’re going to ask me to sit and watch a bunch of actors and actresses (without the magic of movie makeup and movie scripts) walk up on and offstage all night, then I want to be entertained and I want to laugh. My wife and I laughed so hard at times that our stomachs hurt. Seth was playful and damn funny. First time in a long time that I didn’t turn the Oscars off early. We hung around until the end just to see what Seth would do next. This guy is a great host. Was great on SNL. Bring him back!!

Meh. I didn’t find any of his jokes offensive, but I didn’t them very funny. Sure, there were a few good ones, but Daniel Day-Lewis was probably funnier in his 3-odd minute acceptance speech than Seth was throughout all if not most of the show.

I liked MacFarlane. He’s wasn’t a great host, but he’s a damn funny comedian and I guess between the melodramatic acceptance speeches, some hilarious material is very refreshing. I’d love to see him host again
