Seth Rogen Says Don’t Hold Your Breath for JAY AND SETH VS. THE APOCALYPSE

In June of 2008, Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel parlayed a hilarious one-minute video clip into a deal for a major motion picture.  The concept for the film, “Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse”, would remain the same: two guys who sit in their apartment while the world ends; only the length and the budget would get bigger.  Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were supposed to be working on the “Jay and Seth” script for a planned 2010 release date for Mandate Pictures.  So, how are things going with that?  Hit the jump to find out.

When asked about the progress being made on the “Jay and Seth” front, Rogen told MTV that he and Goldberg “have not written one word of that movie.”

You see, Goldberg and Rogen have been a little busy trying to keep their “Green Hornet” adaptation afloat, and if you’ve been following the turns in that story for the past year then you know that saving “Hornet” has been a full-time occupation.  So where does that leave the fans of “Jay and Seth”?

Jay Baruchel has been heard saying that the comedy could still be ready for 2010, to which Rogen replied “I’m glad Jay is optimistic about that.”

The fact that there is no script has to slow things down a bit, although Rogen also noted that the story had been “outlined extensively” by Goldberg and co-author Jason Stone, so it’s possible that “Jay and Seth” could film sometime in 2010… assuming the other 14 projects Rogen has lined up in the meantime don’t get in the way.

It sounds like a good idea for a film, I thought the trailer was hillarious, but if it gets done then fine, if not then fine. I like anything Seth does so whatever.

I thought the trailer was truly lame. It pretty much summed up everything I’ve grown to hate about the Apatow media machine. All the clowns in that stable (Rogen, Segel, Hill, Baruchel, and that painfully obnoxious Yi) are so amused with themselves they don’t bother to write material. Rogen’s career has been driven down our collective throats from the begining – he hasn’t really earned it. I’m glad funny people was a massive bomb – Sandler should have retired awhile ago and Apatow needed a wake up call. I’m looking forward to the failure of the green hornet. I’m guessing Rogen is around three more fumbles away from a sitcom, which is where he belongs.
