SEX AND THE CITY Prequel in the Works? Blake Lively to Play Young Carrie Bradshaw?

If you thought that the dismal response to Sex and the City 2 would kill the beast, you may have to think again.  MSN Australia’s blog Grazia [via /Film] reports that “studio bosses” are interested in adapting Candace Bushnell’s The Carrie Diaries, which centers on the teenage years of SATC protagonist Carrie Bradshaw.  Bushnell recently finished a second novel, Summer and the City, which follows 19-year-old Carrie from Connecticut to New York.  An insider says that there are no plans to bring back the original cast and that “the prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.”  Grazia also reports that Sex and the City producer Michael Patrick King has expressed interest in having Gossip Girl star Blake Lively play young Carrie.  Of course, none of this addresses the problems of Sex and the City 2, which made the characters come off like a bunch of shallow, entitled narcissists.

I wonder if the fanbase would approve of this?

I mean wasn’t part of the pleasure found in the series is that it embraced that the female characters grew older as the show went on? That the show didn’t try to hide the fact these women had to deal with age and wrinkles (well, except for the scary plastic faces in the movie posters).

Isn’t this just the case of what the show always made fun of: Replacing the older woman (gasp- 40!) with a younger chick (just legal).

I actually enjoyed Sex and the City 2 but I have to agree with the above comment. Sex embraced the women getting older. To go the prequel route when the ladies who play the characters are in there prime is an insult. Sex and the City 2 may have not made as much as the first movie but it did make it’s budget back globally. Secondly, are you going to tell me that just because the sequel failed to live up to the media’s expectations of the series or the first movie, you’re going to trash it and give up. MPK and cast should have the opportunity to make an extravagant finale in Sex and the City 3 and hush all the critics who think they did so bad the second time around. They brought a lot cheers for 6 seasons for all this hate because of the sequel.

I agree with the above two comments. It will be extremely weird to replace the well known and loved characters. It was merely the media who killed SATC2 (in my opinion). Im sure a lot of people enjoyed the second movie as much as I did. It was much more funnier and light hearted in comparison to the first. I think SATC fans would have generally enjoyed it. And if there was a third movie with the original cast, I would still go and watch it.
