This story is sort of thin so far but it's interesting enough to warrant a mention. New Line is moving ahead with a Shaft reboot, which gave me pause until I realized that it will have been seventeen or so years since the last Shaft film came out in 2000 before this one hits screens.  That film, directed by John Singleton and starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christian Bale, didn't really capture a lot of the flavor of the Richard Roundtree iteration of the character, so perhaps it is indeed time.

Culturally speaking, it would be nice to see this kind of movie address the social injustices we've been seeing around the country recently (with victims like Michael Brown and Eric Garner among them). Hopefully New Line has the stones to go there. The Wrap first reported the news that producer John Davis would be tasked with developing the property at the studio. No actor is yet attached to star.
