One of my most-anticipated films at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival is Steve McQueen’s Shame. McQueen’s debut feature, Hunger, was a breakthrough not only for its director but star Michael Fassbender. Shame reteams the two for a story about “a New York man (Fassbender) confronting his sexual compulsions and the self-destructive acts of his sister (Carey Mulligan).” The film has drawn rave reviews out of Venice and Telluride particularly for Fassbender’s performance.
Now the first clip from the film has gone online. The clip is brief but it shows Fassbender’s character, Brandon, demonstrating that there’s usually something uncomfortable happening on every subway ride at any given point in the day. There’s also a slew of new images including the first look at James Badge Dale as Brandon’s boss, David. Hit the jump to check out the clip and the images. The 2011 Toronto Film Festival runs from September 8 – 18th. Steve and I will be there covering the hell out of it.
