Warner Bros. has released the final poster for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and it’s not good.  First, it’s probably not the best idea to put your movie stars way in the background thus minimizing their faces.  Second, the looming shadow of Moriarty (Jared Harris) is a nice touch, but it only works if you know he’s the villain and what he looks like.  Otherwise, it’s just the shadow of a guy with a top hat and cane.  Finally, what the hell are Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and Watson (Jude Law) looking at?  Watson seems to be aiming in the opposite direction of Moriarty, and Holmes is posing for a photo shoot.

Here’s the official synopsis for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:

Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room… until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large – Professor Moriarty – and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

Holmes’ investigation into Moriarty’s plot becomes ever more dangerous as it leads him and Watson out of London and across Europe, to France, Germany and finally to Switzerland.

But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction – all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

You’re just jealous that it’s a cool poster.

Matt Goldberg WISHES he were half the poster this Sherlock Holmes one is.

The movie’s still gonna be successful at the box office so who cares anyway how good or bad the freakin poster is anyway.

It matters because that’s what the article is about.

Warner Bros. has released the final poster for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and it’s good. First, it’s filled with neat little details, like the posters on the wall and the Eiffel Tower in the back, and the credits are cleverly placed as well (seriously, how often have you seen a movie poster do something creative with the credits?). Second, the looming shadow of Moriarty (Jared Harris) is a nice touch, and it looks sinister enough to work even if you don’t know he’s the villain and what he looks like. Finally, Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and Watson (Jude Law) are positioned in a way that is a lot less bland than so much of the traditional floating heads movie posters we always see, and they manage to convey their characters perfectly. Watson looks utterly serious and has Holmes’ back, while Holmes himself is smiling cheeky and confident as always.

I have to agree. The posters for this film have all been pretty terrible, and while this isn’t exactly the worst, it isn’t that great either.

Am not a fan of Mr.Goldberg (and he seems to hog the most news worthy stories too) BUt I really agress with him in this case, This poster is not worthy of this flick.
Yeah am still going opening day to see it, but for a movie of its magnitude and significance they could certainly have done better.
