The trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. While it’s nothing too mindblowing, we do get to see a good deal of Noomi Rapace’s character, and bit of Mad Men‘s Jared Harris as Moriarty. It’s nice to see Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law back in fine form, and Ritchie seems to be maintaining the style he set with the first film. The sequel will see Holmes and Watson facing off against Holmes’ arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Eddie Marsan, Kelly Reilly, and Stephen Fry.  Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens December 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:

Guy Ritchie helms a new action-packed adventure, following the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr.), and his longtime trusted associate, Dr. Watson (Law), as they match wits with their arch-nemesis, the criminal genius Moriarty (Harris).”

I might be in the minority but this trailer just left me very underwhelmed. It was just a bunch of random action scenes from the movie with RDJ doing the same stuff in the last movie. Hopefully this is more just of a teaser and we’ll get a more interesting trailer later on.

I was just going to say that felt remarkably like the first trailer for the first film, same music same jokes at points same explosions at points just a different girl and different villain and setting. Against my better judgement I liked the first film even though I love everyone involved in the films and was kind of wanting to hate it. I hope this one exceeds my expectations like the first one

      • LiamH

Same as you I loved everyone involved in these movies but the first one left me very disappointed. The story/script was just not that good or interesting to me. I was hoping this movie would change that but this trailer doesn’t do that. It’s just very teaser-esque which is fine since its the first one but I hope the next one is better.

    Looks fun. Can’t wait.

That “get what’s in your hand out of my face” line is a bit lame the second time around though.

Why does everyone over analyze trailers when they come out? It’s supposed to peak your interest to get you to the theater. If they wanted to show the whole film in the trailer, they would call them “movies” and not trailers. Half the time they ruin plot points in the trailer and you can figure out what is going to happen in the film if you pay close enough attention during the movie. All the quick action shots are what get people psyched to go see the movie in the first place. No additional trailers needed for me. Sign me up.

Why the hell do they use this same shitty trailer music which was already used for the trailers for the first film. They could easily have used something from Hans Zimmers fantastic score for the first movie. I really like the 1st one but this trailer was shite.
I’ll wait for the Dark Knight Rises teaser to blow me away, I know it will.

    • Subej

You sound like you could have made the score better…..why didn’t you? Oh that’s right its because your a nobody. Plus the Dark Knight rises is going to blow.

I love the films, just wish it wasn’t called Sherlock Holmes as well, when Thor came out, it was called Thor, it wasn’t called Forrest Gump.
Which makes sense, they are two completely different films with no relation, same as Sherlock Holmes and this detectice film RDJ is in.

Nothing like Sherlock Holmes so shouldn’t call it that to be honest, other than the fact they couldn’t think of a title that would work and would get crowds in like “Detective Bob”, so they had to steal a idea and completely change it other than the names in the series.

When the first one came out last year or the year before, I remember reading “Watson really comes out into his own and makes the film his” or something similar, which made me just confused on what to think, I mean it is Sherlock Holmes, it isn’t Sherlock Holmes and the other main character watson, the Law Watson is nothing like what Watson is in the books which is fine, but it is not fine when you say this is Sherlock Holmes, the films are more than just a directors take on the series, it is the same characters, but completely different characteristics to the point that this film could just have name changes and no one would even get a clue that it was meant to be Sherlock Holmes, but that is the way things go now a days, Doctor Who being the worse of them all, Main characters that never really used weapons now use them, their have to be “big bangs!” and shiny things in the films as well the side kicks are now made to be the main character as much as the real main character is, if not more.

Entertaining. I’m definitely looking forward to this film. The one thing I would say I was seriously disappointed about with this trailer was the music. They used the same ES Posthumus song from the first (which is completely epic btw), which was a little annoying. BUT I loved to see Robert and Jude’s chemistry again, and the “Get what’s in your hand out of my face” line felt perfect. I love the way those two work together. Again, I’m excited. =)

  • Bill Graham

My main problem wasn’t that the first film lacked entertainment. I enjoyed myself. But it was over 2 hours long yet felt a lot longer. For a film that FEELS like 2.5 hours, you want it to be an incredible experience that moves you and makes you want to come back for more. I didn’t.

I’m curious to see how I react to this film. Love the cast, love the crew. I can’t wait to see much more of Noomi Rapace. And check out RDJ rocking the Tony Stark facial hair in the intro. Filming Avengers much?

Looks like a big, fun crowd pleaser.
The first one was OK, although it was one of those housewife-family friendly holiday blockbusters. But if they had opted for great cinema and storytelling, the story would have been a lot more clever. I hope they are not making the same mistake with this one! From this trailer I am not really convinced they changed their first concept. But who wants to argue with 500 million.

Hmm..I hope it’s got a plot this time. No hint of one in the trailer, though.

    Jesus take the wheel!!!
I rented Holmes 1 and fell asleep. Piece of shit. Hated whatever I saw of it.I won’t be repeating the same thing with this one.
And the chick from that dragon tat movie. Please. She has about as much charisma as the wrinkles on my ball sack.

Guy Ritichie should give up this series, which he did manage to make somewhat modern

But it was a poor action film, poor thriller, poor mystery and even poor Sherlock Holmes film

I like the characters, actors and old world, but Ritchie can’t put them together in any entertaining way. Also the whole bromance aspect is getting a little gay. The cross dressing doesn’t help. Way to much slow motion this time too, Ritchie ain’t no Zack Snyder.

    • B

Sure he will give up. When the movies stop making TONS of money for him and everyone else involved.

  • nali

love it,my top film this Christmas, loved the first one coz it mixed fun and action well.

    • Lob Taylor

      Yep my top movie too,

  • battleangel

I love all things Sherlock Holmes (well… most things), and while Jeremy Brett will always be Sherlock in my mind, I think RDJ’s take is exhilarating and actually contains traces of the Brett performance (I believe I read somewhere that he watched a lot of Brett for inspiration, both to find out what he should cast out about the performance, as well as what to keep)… love Law as Holmes. The first film could have definitely been better, but it was Holmes and not just action-masquerading-as-holmes. Everything about this second trailer makes me think that we’re in for a better version of the first film, which is perfectly fine to me. If you’ve read a lot of Holmes, the stories are never clones of eachother, but there’s a very serialized feel to the beats.

    • battleangel

      errr… Law as Watson

  • Lob Taylor

This is not the real trailer, The real trailer comes out with the Harry potter movie. I remember reading somewhere this is the trailer for the trailer or some marketing gimmick.
I bet they know the expectation surrounding this sequel doubt they will mess that up with this as a trailer …hell am gonna be on the line on opening day trailer or not :D .

  • nevinx

Efin hate everything that’s there is to this project

You actually make it seem really easy together with your presentation but I to find this topic to be actually one thing which I feel I might by no means understand. It kind of feels too complex and very vast for me. I am having a look forward on your next publish, I will try to get the cling of it!
