We're only a few weeks away from the latest installment in the BBC's Sherlock series, a one-off holiday special entitled The Abominable Bride, which runs a little less than 90 minutes and sends Holmes and Watson (Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) back to the late 19th century. We've already seen stills and a trailer for the special, with impeccable-looking production design, but with the latest trailer, we get a more clear sense of what the title refers to and the seeming trajectory of the story itself. From what can be gleaned, the detectives are now hunting down a ghostly killer in a bridal gown and veil, a bride who is believed to be dead but is now acting like an avenging angel of sorts in the streets of London. Check out the latest Sherlock: The Abominable Bride trailer below:

The special is directed by Douglas Mackinnon, who is known for directing more than a handful of Doctor Who episodes, as well as a portion of the Jekyll series wherein James Nesbitt inhabited the titular role. It's also written by series heavyweights Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss,  the former of which you may also know as being mildly involved in Doctor Who. At this year's Comic-Con, Moffat made it clear that this special is meant to be seen as a one-off, a bit of a high-minded investigatorial drama snack before the next full series hits the BBC. In the meantime, Cumberbatch is set to appear in both Zoolander 2 and Jungle Book: Origins, and is currently filming Marvel's hugely anticipated Doctor Strange, which will be released in late 2016. As for Freeman, he has an undisclosed role in Captain America: Civil War and will also be appearing in Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's dark comedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. In other words, we'll be seeing a lot of these guys in the coming year, which Sherlock: The Abominable Bride will serve as a nice opening act for.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride will premiere on BBC on January 1st, 2016.
