If you’ve got eight minutes to kill and want to watch Shia LaBeouf nude in a softcore porn video to an atmospheric piano medley, then boy do I have a video for you! As part of “The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment” from Icelandic band, Sigur Ros, LaBeouf starred in this inspired music video from director, Alma Har’el (Bombay Beach). The experiment in question started with the band extending an invitation to 12 filmmakers to take a modest budget and create an original vision representing each one of their songs. The result was the marketing gimmick: See Shia LaBeouf’s Penis. Hit the jump to do just that.
Anytime I write the phrase: See So-and-So’s Penis!, you should assume that the video that follows will be extremely NSFW. I don’t know if Har’el was inspired by 70s porn and interpretive dance or if LaBeouf was tired of hearing all that talk about Michael Fassbender and his…performance in Shame, but this is kind of a combination of all of the above. Or it’s a really elaborate American Apparel ad…I’m not entirely sure. Check out the video below and please, for the love of God, leave your reactions in the comments section.
Here’s a description of “The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment” from Sigur Ros’ website:
sigur rós have given a dozen film makers the same modest budget and asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to songs from the band’s new album valtari. the idea is to bypass the usual artistic approval process and allow people utmost creative freedom. among the filmmakers are ramin bahrani, alma har’el and john cameron mitchell.
“we never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. we don’t want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it. with the films, we have literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. none of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it could be interesting.”

Finally something with SB in it that’s worth watching. Nicely done.

What the fuck did i just watch?
Pure Crap. His acting still sucks.
Dafuq did I just watch…?
A softcore porn video? Stupid americans.
Stupid Americans? The band is from Iceland. Stupid wonky eyed neanderthals is more like it.
LOL you did not understad what Jude said
sa..
:-O
That is some of the most pretentious cinema I’ve ever watched….
How is this soft porn? They just show them naked strictly for like 20 seconds. And I thought it was nicely done. Very abstract. Just like looking at an abstract art piece in a museum. So please don’t call it crap.
Oh good gracious! Bless their hearts that was terrible…wait what’s worse than terrible?? It was def worse than terrible.
It’s ART. Really. Really Really Really Really.
It’s, like, so deep I felt like I was being compressed via it’s immense gravitational ART-Y-NESS.
Yeah, it was completely self absorbed trash.
(the video, not LePoof)
Or rather,
(the video AND LePoof)
Avantbullshit.
Well, that was… interesting. To be honest, I didn’t really understand the ‘plot’, except for some of the smaller aspects.
On a positive note, the music is beautiful.
And I agree with the person who said that this isn’t softcore porn. It is literally about 20 seconds of out of 8 minutes of them being nude, and it’s not even them having sex. That’s like calling the statue of David porn, instead of art.
Just realized I put an unnecessary ‘of’ in there, ignore that, lol.
Why must I see Shia’s Junk ? It’s not even artistic.
Wannabe art will always be trash, even if in some crazy way it becomes as influencial as Andy Warhol, it is still crap.
For me art is something that has had maticulosely built, painted or shot. This video was everyday emo trash, the music was even worse, just some random notes here and there (elevator music is more sophisticated than that)…
Your comment literally made me shake with anger, and I have multiple points to make here.
1. Any person who aspires to be an artist could technically be considered a wannabe.
Are you saying that all art or attempted art is trash. You never gave any examples of what
You think is art. What even is “wannabe art”? Anything that time and effort has been put into
Is art. Anything.
2. The video contains metaphores and motifs that the viewers are supposed to interpret for
Themselves. Since you obviously couldn’t do that you called it trash.
Music was beautiful. I thought the acting from the two main characters was good. Shia really made me sad when you find out hes kinda crazy and hes all teary eyed. Hes really great at conveying his emotions. I thought it was cool, made me think rather than just have everything told strait. Even if it was very very really really strange. Also did the dancing and the car throw everybody else off too?
Shia Le pipi
I watched 20 seconds and left. What in the name of God did I just watch?
DECEPTCONS ROLL OUT!!!!!
sorry , i meant AUTOBOTS.. must stop smoking meth
I don’t think I can be as harsh as some of the above posts, but aside from the music (Sigur Ros is always wonderful), I’m not sure I really “like” this piece. But I don’t completely dislike it either.
Love this band, but oh-so pretentious filming (and waaaaaay too long)–reminds me of college efforts. Would have preferred nudity throughout to those hideous white tighties (or baggies, in this case).
Does it transform to dirk diggler or is it always that small?
Funniest thing I’ve heard all year. True story
Utterly dissapointing…I am glad that it was not Sigur Ros who produce this video…
Why do people so readily concrete the words art and pretentious together like that? Criticizing work like this doesn’t make you sound like you know what you’re talking about. It makes it sound like you don’t understand what you’re seeing.
It is ridiculous to generalise that nudity=porn or nudity=art.
I love people expressing their opinions but Jesus, explain why you don’t like it or think it’s trash. If you don’t have a reason then you’re completely missing the point.
I thought it was beautiful.
well said. many who criticize don’t know what they are talking about or have a microscopic view of what “art” is.
and what is art Sara ? I’m all ears.
Most of the comments calling this pretentious are pretty accurate. All art forms have the potential to get too metaphorical. That’s really the problem in modern times. There are so many artists vying for recognition that instead of refining a skill, they resort to easier methods of individuality. Such as trying too hard to make an abstract art piece. This is one such piece that has went a little too far in the abstract direction. BUT, I find it amazing that artist can come up with stuff this “out there”. I guess it’s a skill. There are parts of this piece that have great qualities. That’s all.
“the internet makes you stupid”
maybe you’re supposed to sync it with dark side of the moon?
Turned off at first, but in love by the end. the construction of the plot is meticulous!
a perfect depiction of heterosexual love
The first film with nudity and sex that I’ve seen since CALIGULA, that I wish I hadn’t seen. WTF?
Are you kidding me? This film was brilliant, Shia Labeouf was brilliant and the chemistry was ominous. The contemporary dance was elegant yet abrasive This is brilliantly constructed artwork and if you don’t see it then i fear for your taste. How could this be considered “softcore porn” yet Rihanna rubbing her twat on stage is mainstream and accepted. I’ve never used this site before but I’m sure now that I never will again. What a depressing batch of introverted comments.
Really, soft-core porn? that video is art. not porn, no where does it mention his name apart from the credits, so no advertisement from him is to be seen, and a melody? the person who wrote this needs to learn a thing about culture.
I thought it was a beautiful piece and don’t see how this can be called soft-core porn. I;m so glad sigur ros started The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment and can’t wait for the rest of the videos to come out.
For me, it took a while to get used to. My mind set it as a film for the first few minutes, so I expected some sort of blockbuster plot haha… but that quickly changed as the video went on. I found this very moving as it drew closer to the end.
Watched it twice already…a beautiful piece of work
Not bad, not bad at all, she had a lovely pair and he was quite the french bushy pubes…
I really did enjoy it. All of this argument just goes to show that it is indeed art. Art inspires controversy, my dears. If you feel it was trash then you may simply walk away, but for those of us who caught on to a deeper, more significant meaning, we will defend it as our kind has always done. We are here to appreciate something more than ourselves and if you are blind to its beauty or deaf to its message, try not to take such a negative view of it or the wonderful life that potentially surrounds you. An appreciation for art (no matter how abstract or unappealing to the masses) is decisively linked to an appreciation for life (no matter how abstract or unappealing to the masses). Art, like life, is a matter of opinion. It is expression. At some point we must all get over ourselves enough to receive it like we would a smile on a friendly face or a tear that runs down a sadly familiar one.
I don’t think anyone was trying to “do” or “make” art. Seems to me there was an effort to communicate something. And I can say that as a result, I understood something new that I hadn’t before (about the internal experience of struggling with an addiction/stuck abusive relationship). And that happened because of the tools they used to communicate (in addition to and instead of words), video, dance, acting. So in the end it touched me. Whatever we call it, it communicates a lot to some of us. I’m glad it was made and I’m glad I saw it.
Okay, I think I got it. He destroyed her soul then felt quite sad about it. Am I right?
One of the low points of the whole film experiment, in my view. Some parts of this one seemed played for laughs (the car stuff); nevertheless it was tedious, slick, polished, an opportunity wasted considering the quality of the music.
I thought some scenes were actually quite nice. I wish the song had some parts that accentuated the scenes, but I didn’t get that vibe at all, but it was a nice soft song. The fluid movements and sudden stills were nice, and I liked the transition. LaBeouf impressed me quite a bit, his partner however was ugly and looked man-ish, very hard on the eyes. She ruined most of the video whenever her face was present. Her face cause some kind of distortion to every scene, and really shocked the senses. I was apalled really, and it was no wonder LaBeouf did not have an erection during any of his nude scenes. Really ugly girl. She should have been replaced.
