Denis Villeneuve's military thriller Sicario has released a number of trailers ahead of its September 18th theatrical release date, but this latest one might be the most successful yet. It's a tightly edited piece that explains the premise, introduces the characters, and pumps up the tension, all to a contemporary audio track that helps to grab audiences' attention and leaves them wanting more after it's all said and done. Even better, it doesn't give away quite as much of the story's third act as the previous trailers have presumably done.

In SicarioEmily Blunt plays an FBI agent whose brutal experiences on the job make her the perfect candidate in the eyes of the leader of an elite task force (Josh Brolin), who recruits her as a soldier in the war on drugs. Things take an ugly turn when a questionable consultant (Benicio Del Toro) begins to lead their secretive efforts south of the U.S.-Mexico border.

In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman.

 

In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs.
