SILENT HILL Stars Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger Return for SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D; New Image Released
Five years ago, the original adaptation of the atmospheric, survival-horror videogame Silent Hill hit theaters with less than blockbusting results. However, since people tend to love multiple sequels to these games-turned-movies (see the Resident Evil series), it’s no surprise that Silent Hill: Revelation 3D has already started filming. Alongside up-and-comers Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington, the sequel will see the return of Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger, all of whom played characters who managed to survive to the end of Silent Hill. Here’s the synopsis:
For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

While it’s not all that surprising that a sequel is being churned out of the Silent Hill franchise (or for that matter, the fact that the production team behind Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D will also be behind Silent Hill: Revelation 3D), I’m honestly surprised that the surviving characters of the original film will be making an appearance. Maybe they will be guides for a new crop of survivors who stumble into Silent Hill’s hellish dimension? It will be interesting to see where the sequel picks up and we’ll keep you updated as we find out more along the way.
And normally I’m not a fan of the whole 3D shtick, but with the Red Epic cameras and the incredible atmosphere the videogames were revered for, the visuals could be even more engaging than the original. Besides, I’m always up for some more flesh-rending courtesy of Pyramid Head.
Here’s the press release announcing that Mitchell, Bean, and Unger have joined the cast:

STARS FROM THE ORIGINAL SILENT HILL REPRISE THEIR ROLES IN TORONTO
Toronto, Canada – March 15, 2011: Davis Films producer Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody announced today that the stars of Silent Hill, Radha Mitchell (The Crazies, Surrogates), Sean Bean (HBO’s upcoming series Game of Thrones, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Lord of the Rings), and Deborah Kara Unger (Shake Hands with the Devil, 88 Minutes) will return to join Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Vampire, Camilla Dickinson, Wasted on the Young, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) on Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
Filming in Toronto, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on a screenplay by director Michael Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), who is joined by cinematographer Maxime Alexandre (The Crazies, Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes), production designer Alicia Keywan (The Haunting in Connecticut, Messengers,), costume designer Wendy Partridge (Silent Hill, Hellboy, Underworld) and edited by Michele Conroy (Vincenzo Natali’s Splice).
International sales are being handled by Lionsgate.
Bassett said: “It wouldn’t be the same without some of the original Silent Hill cast. Sean, Radha and Deborah’s return will certainly thrill fans of the franchise and compliment Revelations stars Adelaide and Kit.”
Alexandre added: “With the most advanced technology available, in particular the lighter, smaller and more flexible 3D Red Epic, we are able to take audiences deeper in the world of Silent Hill than they ever dreamed possible. Devotees will finally be able to enter this realm along side of Heather, Vincent, Harry and Rose and experience the psychological horror and the fear of the unknown with them.”
Hadida and Carmody most recently produced Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, and Wentworth Miller. Past collaborations include Resident Evil: Apocalypse and the earlier Silent Hill.
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on the acclaimed survival horror videogame franchise by KONAMI and is the sequel to Hadida and Carmody’s earlier Silent Hill directed by Christophe Gans.
