SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Retitled SIN CITY: A DAME TO DIE FOR If This New Poster Is an Indication [Updated]

     November 6, 2013

When it was announced that the sequel to Sin City would be based on Frank Miller’s comic, A Dame to Kill For, the movie’s title came as a bit of a no-brainer.  Now, it seems the marketing machine may be ramping up a bit, as the title of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For appears to have undergone a slight title change.  A recent poster sighting rebrands the sequel as, Sin City: A Dame to Die For.  Perhaps the word “kill” was a little strong for someone who obviously hasn’t seen the original film, so the more passive and self-sacrificial “die” makes more marketing sense, which is to say, none at all.

Whatever the title, the Robert Rodriguez-directed sequel stars Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Mickey RourkeJessica AlbaBruce WillisRosario DawsonJaime KingJoseph Gordon-LevittDennis HaysbertChristopher MeloniJeremy PivenRay LiottaJuno Temple, Stacy Keach, and Julia Garner, and opens August 22, 2014.  Hit the jump to scope out the new poster.

UPDATE: The Studio has informed us the title has not changed.  It’s still Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Here’s a look at the newly titled movie poster for the Sin City sequel:

  • Stefan Bonomo

Why?…just why?…What’s the point of this? Just keep it as ‘A Dame to Kill For’.
Why do I get the feeling that some marketing exec came to Rodriguez and said “Hey, you know why ‘Machete Kills’ bombed? Cause it had ‘Kills’ in the title, and thats bad press…even though both films are already heavy R films so that shouldn’t matter.

  • SomeGuy

So will he be killing or dying for her?

AAAAHHHHH! This sucks, what’s is the point? Just enrage fans!! I hope is one of those posters where… you know what whatever. I’m going back to work.

  • The Flobbit

God damn it. I LOVED the title A Dame to Kill For. This is passive, lazy, and lukewarm.
Hollywood needs to stop changing this shit – Don Jon’s Addiction > Don Jon, All You Need is Kill > Edge of Tomorrow, A Dame to Kill For > A Dame to Die For.

  • mattinacan

this won’t make non fans come see the movie, and it might alienate actual fans. dumb idea all around. side note: i just watched Brolin in Gangster Squad, and while that was pretty terrible, all i could think about is how great an aging Batman he would have made.

    • The Flobbit

He would have been badass. You know who else would have been great? Richard Armitage. Jim Caviezel. Jon Hamm. Karl Urban. Max Martini. Daniel Craig. Mark Strong. Anyone but Ben Affleck.

  • Kevin

This changes nothing. The same people will see it either way.
