Dimension Films has released a new trailer for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the physically altered Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the first film), who is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord (Eva Green), and then watches his life go straight to hell.  This trailer doesn’t really get into the plot all that much, as it’s more of a flashy, aesthetic teaser than anything.  Frankly, the visuals for Sin City 2 look quite cheap compared to the first film, even though technology has advanced almost a decade since Rodriguez made Sin City.  The cast is promisingly eclectic, though, but right now that’s the only thing holding my interest here.

Here’s the official synopsis for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For:

Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning “Sin City” graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.

Looks just fine to me. Not sure how ya improve black/white, with a spot of color here n there, with technical advancements…

    Anyone…?

    • Doby

I agree, but I think that Adam was just hoping for something more given that there has been almost a decade between films and yet it looks like more of the same…

Its not the color palate, its the production design. There isn’t much going on in the frame, or at least not compared to 05′.

He’s right. Its cheap and thats sad.

OK, I would have to agree on the production aspect. As the shots do look empty, minus the actor/actress.

Hope it will still be fun though, it looks like it will be.

Also, there is too much color. In the first film, only a handful of things were in color. Here, the dress, the lips, the eyes, the lights… It’s too much. Secondly, too much CGI. It looks really fake and constructed.

Still, that’s part of the stylized nature of the film, and it looks badass and beautiful.

Same here, no complaints about the look.

I would assume it won’t look too different from the first. The character is the focus JUST like comic would be! The bit with alba at the end looked really cool(lighting/not that she’s doesn’t look amazing or anything)
I hope it will be good!

This film still looks great. I personally like the simplistic design and I really like how it looks so close to the original, you really could put both films together to have one long experience. Just hurry and come out so I can give you my money!

Fuck all of you haters. Seriously? This film looks gorgeous. Who gives a shit about the evolution of technology.

      Rapist!

  • Muse(ic) hahaah thats clever

I would enjoy the trailers a lot more if they weren’t set to what sounds like Megatron moaning in ecstasy from a rim job given by Starscream. Seriously, the music kills the vibe.

Yep, the criticism seems rather overcooked. It’s a 1 minute trailer for a movie that has a ton of post-production that goes into it. PP that they’re probably still working on. Until we get something more substantial and closer to the release date, I’ll put those crits into the “axe to grind” basket.

co, directed by Frank Miller… that made me laugh.. As much as I liked the first SC, Frank Miller don’t have what it takes to direct a movie…yet…. In the first one from what I remember he directed couple of scenes and then he made that awful Spirit movie..

Isn’t this the same as the first trailer that was released for this? It doesn’t look much different to me. As for the flick, it looks to be more of the same, but I liked the first Sin City, so sign me up.

I will absolutely be seeing this and I’m very much looking forward to doing so… But I think they’ve waited too long between trips to the well. Compare first impressions of this with its predecessor, it just doesn’t pack the same punch.

On the plus side, its great to see Powers Boothe in anything. Guy is brilliant.

This will be Brolin’s test to see if he has become box office poison in regards to leading man status. Jonah Hex, Oldboy and Labor Day were all box office/critical bombs. I like his work but he just can’t seem to land in a good film lately as his last good film was True Grit in 2010 – and he wasn’t really a main character in it, in fact he really wasn’t in it at all until the very end. In some ways if this movie bombs it’ll be a Godsend that WB passed on him being Batman as that’ll be just one more thing going against the new film.
